I am building a new home and have a bonus room. I was able to section off a 7.5' X 16' room for a control/mixing room and home recording. Any suggestions on setting this up? It is only framed in at this point. Yet to be sheet rocked. Any or all thoughts would be welcome, and if you have any questions fire away. I am not too experienced in all the technical lingo on studios. I just love music and love to record. I have the digi 001 set up with Mackie HR824 monitor. I have no extra money for all the great things I read about here and elsewhere. Just hoping for a little help if anyone sees easy, low cost, ideas on how to make the mixing work best with what I have. Thanks
wellyou either go with one room (7.5 x 16) or two rooms 7.5 x 10 and 7.5 x 6. Do you want a separate recording room?? cheers john
Well, I am not sure the best way to do it. I could divide the room as you mention 10' and 6' . What I am also thinking, is, I will have a glass door into the rest of the bonus room that I thought I could use that part if I ever have several musician over at one time to record. But I primarily record myself and another vocalist. In the home I am in now, I currently use a 8X16 room for everything, but I also have bookshelves and a second study desk and filing cabinet that will not be in the new room, so I am figuring I will have more space even though the room will be 1/2' narrower. I will have my keyboard, two roland amps and my 3 guitars all in the room. The only real problem I have now is the computer noise in the room when I am recording vocals and the walls are acoustically dead. But as a mixing room, the 7.5' X16', is that useful dimentions for the way the soundwaves will flow? And is sheet rock finish going to cause me problems? This is where all the math and acoustic reverberations is way over my head. So, is this a good dimention? or would dividing the room into different dimentions be better for mixing. Hope I am making some sense here. Thanks again for any and all thoughts.
