I have a bare bones attic to turn into a studio and practice space. I want it to be comfortable. This will mainly be for my personal solo use or band use.
The room is 42' x 14'. It is an Attic that was originally going to be a family room (meaning it should have been designed to hold weight). Along one of the 14' walls there is a 4 foot window (sideways). 1/4 in to one of the 42' walls there is a 4 foot open stair case in the that goes out in the shape of a "U". The roof is pitched like a triangle with its center along the 42' dimension. In the middle of the 42' dimension it "T's" out to another triangle that covers the stairs down to the second floor.
In other words the peak of the roof would look like this:

Right now the attic is hot, but it is not insulated. Centeral air is not possible. How do you cool the room/s?
To let you know, The roof pitches into a triangle about 5 & 1/2 feet up the side walls.
So, would you please draw me some design Ideas for this room. I've looked around alot, and this seems to be the best place to get this kind of info.
Thank you very much for your time.

Start by looking in Studios Under Construction area, especially Bluefield Studio
Air condtioning is hard to talk about without even knowing where you are. First thought is lined ducts to vent the air outside. Andrehttp://www.johnlsayers.com/Studio/Mainpage/MP-Bluefield.htm
I'm in Minnesota, USA. We have 3-4 Months of bitter cold and 3-4 months of Heat. Probably 2 out of that can get really hot, especially in the attic.
Update your profile so people reading later psts will now. this. Lined ducts to vents seems the best bet then. How close are your neighbours? AndreI'm in Minnesota, USA. We have 3-4 Months of bitter cold and 3-4 months of Heat. Probably 2 out of that can get really hot, especially in the attic.
Neighbors shouldn't be a problem. The closest one is is about 150-200 feet away. The others are are about 400 feet or further and theres about 120feet of woods inbetween them.
Its also a brick house.
I'm more concerned of sounds getting in then out, as I've played in that house for a long time without a comlaint.
Great! A serpentine duct system with fans then. Thanks for updating your profile. AndreI'm more concerned of sounds getting in then out
Can you explain how this seperate duct system with fans works? Is that to push hot air out or cold air in? Thanks.

This thread explains more and provides design information also. You can push or pull the air. Personally,I would place the fan in the intake low in the wall and the exhaust in the roof. Also in this case locate the fan on the outside so that the fan noise is isolated also. http://forum.studiotips.com/viewtopic.php?t=412&highlight=duct+silencer Incidently, the Eric Desart in that thread is the same that posts here, and designed the updated acoustics for Galaxy Studios http://www.galaxystudios.com Cool Guy; AndreCan you explain how this seperate duct system with fans works?
