Hello! I'm 19 years old musician and my biggest wish is to have a studio to freely record. I haven't got any gear at this moment, but this will soon change :D! anyway. I'm a student and have 4 roommates in the apartment. What i'd like to ask you guys is, would you recoment renting a basement and build my studio there, or first buy the gear and the studio space later? I'm not even really shure what i need. I'd only like to record one instrument at a time, would be a iso booth the best choice for me? Thx Borut
Greetings and welcome! If you're just starting out, and have a lot of time to study, take a look at the Recording Manual (get there from the John Sayers productions link at the top right). When you get thru that, register yourself over at recording.org and read everything you can- they have a "newbie" area over there that will do you justice. To answer your question, the gear and the space will kinda need to happen at the same time- the room won't do you much good without the gear, and vice versa. But if you have a bedroom and an instrument, you can at least get going on the experimenting/learning end. Good luck!
