Hi guys, I am considering resizing my studio, and need some ideas. If you have some nice photos of your setup that you want to share, please post them here. I currently have a small 10ft x 7ft (internal dimension) vocal booth and a small 10 x 10 control room (yes yes yes it's square !!) . Main work is audio for picture / audio post production, voice overs and sometimes music / song recording. beside the control room, there is another "L shaped" room that is almost 10 x 10 too that i use for my paper work, occasional MIDI programming / music composition, and sometimes double up as "Studio B". But it doesn't happen often. Less than 5 times in the past 4 years when both rooms are "fully booked" for paying jobs. I am considering resizing the main control room to 10 x 14 and make the MIDI room smaller. I also have a sofa in the control room, and it gets a bit crowded with many clients, the producers plus my AE in it. I might not be willing to combine both rooms into one big 10 x 20 (thought it might be nice). When my main room is occupied (mainly in the day time by my AE and clients or producers), i need a space for occasional paper work or internet surfing. OR is the added depth not worth the money and i should live with it until i have a bigger space, since i've been living with this setup for the past 4 years. Only thing is, the room is really crowded if there are a lot of people in the room :( Any other sugesstion? If you run a similar small facilities, please show me your pictures for ideas. Thanks & Regards, [Charles]
here's a pic of my studio (nothing much changed since last year) The room is not big enough for me to take a full view but there are more stuffs to the side and at the back (the client's sofa)

I do not have a scaled drawing, but i could do a quick render with MS Paint when i manage to scan in my actual floor plan later, if that helps. Meanwhile, i really appreciate if i get opinions on whether should i live with what i have or resize everything. so far there's one vote for it :) also, if there are any ideas and pictures of your current setup, please feel free to share it with us as reference (not for idea stealing  )
Hi again, Here's a render of how my rooms are layed out

This was my allocated area. Outside the studios (on the right of the picture), is a little walkway, leading to the pantry / toilet right after the MIDI/Admin Area. beside the Iso Booth is a Video editing room One idea I had was to make my current ISO Booth my MIDI/Admin room and my current control room my iso room, and then the MIDI/Admin room the new control room, but that would mean quite a lot of work to rebuild the walls, windows, etc, which is as good as tearing everything down and starting all over. The "easy way out", was to extend the current control room into the MIDI/Admin room, right before where the aircon unit is, so i need to build less walls, and also not have to re-pipe the aircons, etc... One new question, the corner / side wall absorber that most guys are using here, if i were to use the external design as an idea (ie. slabs of wood as exterior) but inside, it's actually a cabinet for storage instead of sealing and stuffing it with foams, will it work somehow as diffusors and partial absorbers if i line the internal with thin foams (including the back of the cabinet doors from the inside) ?? space is real tight, so i need to utilise empty spaces as storage area.
Hi guys! Wow, I was going through my old topics, and found this, instead of writing up a new thread, maybe I will continue with this 8-year-old thread? Well, here in Singapore, we do not have the luxury of big spaces (large size = higher rent), and because the spaces were rented, we are always at the mercy of landlords, and I have since relocated to 2 other locations since my last post!! My last studio was great! I had two control rooms and a huge recording area. Control room A was abt 14'W x 17'L x 10' H and 5-leaf walls?? Yes, it shocked some folks here.. but sound isolation and sound proofing was superb!! But I had to vacate the place due to high rent. Now? I am down to a single Control Room, 8.2' x 11' and abt 10' Height), and my recording booth is a Whisper Room (single walled - highly uneffective, and leaks like crazy!!) The time have come when I need to relocate (ONCE AGAIN). The exciting news (for me) is that this could possibly be my permanent studio. We are buying the place; I share the facilities with a video / film production house with video editing facilities. But the not-so-good news is, I might have to go even smaller than the current 8.2' x 11' (abt 2.5 x 3.5m). Note, these excludes the vocal booth. We do mainly Audio Post Production and mixes for Broadcast. So, back to the same 8-year-old question and request .. There will be occassional visits from clients, and usually the Director / Producer need to sit in with me for the mix presentation. Can I have a suggestion on how much smaller can I go? Is a 6.5' x 10' (2 x 3m) or 6.5' x 6.5'x 11' (2x3.5m) room workable? And I would really like to have a look at photos of some of your studio with such small space for inspirations. This is really sad that I have go downsize, but I guess I have to go with the flow and work with what I have. Your sharing and links would be much appreciated! Thanks & Regards, [Charles]
