Hey - Total Newbie on Construction - not a newbie on recording
I may move into a 500 - 700 sq foot space and build a control room and small live room - fully pro. What is the range (and I know that is a loaded question) I can expect to pay to build this out.
It's got to be a great place to mix and record - sound proof - linked to an HVAC, the whole deal - doors to spacers. What's the cost like? $5,000 - $50,000?
Give me a ballpark

Depending on how much you have done professionally, and the finishes, up to 250$/squae foot. More info will provide a more accurate answer.

That sounds about right. I am in New York City - so it's not a cheap area, but I will have the space (which is the most important). I was hoping to do a lot myself with a couple of great carpenters - but is $250/sq. foot reasonible to pay to have the whole thing done by a pro? Electric, runs for cabling (I have the cables from my current studio), HVAC, etc.? If so that might be the best.
Please think about how vague your query is. Rephrasing what I wrote in my first post, knowing that you are in NY from your profile, 250$/square foot may do it all, or be too low because of the surface finishes and or unique problems to you location. Good luck! AndreThat sounds about right. I am in New York City - so it's not a cheap area, but I will have the space (which is the most important). You're right - sorry to be vague. It actually helps me to see if I am even thinking close to the right numbers. I have contacted a few builders for quotes. If it would be helpful to the members here, and I choose a builder, I will post photos of the 'pro' build.
Good luck with the project and we will all enjoy the photos. Have you looked at all the photos of construction in the studios under construction section off the main page. Have fun! Andreit would be helpful to the members here, and I choose a builder, I will post photos of the 'pro' build.
Just a quick follow up - I didn't really do the math when you posted that first figure - but are you saying that 300sq. feet will cost $75,000 to build out as a baseline for a pro build?
Within your incredible vagueness, what are considering as a "baseline?" Commercially built studios in the northeast States run around $150 to $200 per square foot built professionally. That does not include LV (mic, cue, monitor, midi, etc) wiring. Without knowing what you expect to be of your studio, nor the exact labour and material costs in your area, yes $75,000 for the studio construction, in a satisfactory building.
