hello all, the drawing below is of my studio im about to build. Now i wanted one larger room to do my recording and mixing in as i will be recording most often on my own. i HAve a few questions if anyone would like to help out please. 1. The room is half carpet and half timber floor. Is this a problem in a small room? will my concept work? in regards to fuctionality and accoustics. 2. should the back ball be a diffuser or an absorber? 3. SHould the side walls be treated? how? 4. Would seperating the rooms with a thick curtain be of any benefit? (when recording drums or vocals?)

I'm no expert, but I would have the chair and recording console on the hard wood side. You want the sound behind you to decay not bounce around. There is another post here with a room similar to yours and you need to treat the side walls. look at this thread : please help me place my bass traps in my mix room + diagrams also try here and read up a little. http://www.saecollege.de/reference_material/index.html
From what I've seen and read, having the whole floor reflective (wood) and the whole ceiling absorptive would probably suit you better. If you wanted to lay down a big carpet to deaden the sound, that's easy enough... the hard floor gives you more options, and the carpet won't do much but absorb the very high freq's anyway. I don't think the curtain between the two sides would do you much good. In my opinion, you'd be best served making the whole room relatively balanced (live vs dead).
