Hello All! Can someone guide me with the design I have for my studio. I have finally built my new house and am starting the design for the studio. I originally started a year and a half ago but stopped until the house plans were finalized and complete. I am in no rush and want to do it correct the first time. I have needs for the studio but am willing to compromise. I have attached a CRUDE drawing, but it is what I would like. The room is 21x21.4x8.4 I am having trouble with the dimensional needs of the rooms and angles. Thanks all. SoZo Amplification

Yup - the corner control room - works a treat. hey - I see you've got the new version of smartdraw. You don't have to screen save - just go to file/export and you can export to gif, jpg etc. cheers john
John if you remember, you helped me a bit before I built the house. I wish financially I could consult you personally but as of right now I don’t think I can, at least on a full blown scale.
here's a smartdraw version of a similar room so you can get a hang of he angles :) cheers john

Thanks John... Your awesome! I just made a donation for all the help youve given already.
Here are some modifications I made. There are some planning matters I’m concerned about: Is the drum booth is big enough? I want to put French doors on the drum booth and main room so it can almost become one room for a live situation or band practice, I inserted 60” doors from smart draw, aren’t they 72” and will they work? Can they be sealed? The drawing is 20x20 and I have 21x21, so I may be able to fit them. Also damn.. I’m so new at this. This drawing has only one wall per room and I need two so, how much room is taken up with 2 layers of sheetrock per wall and a 4 inch gap between. It really shrinks the space quick. What would you recommend for building technique? I originally wanted to do the staggered stud design. But with the glass sliding doors and French doors it seems it would be overkill if they weren’t going to have that STC rating. Thanks! John

Making that back wall circular is about the worst thing you could do acoustically: everything direct sound from you speakers is reflected directly back to the source  ... Otherwise, the design looks ok. Greetings, Dirk
I was thinking it would become a bass trap. I probably would'nt make it round, as it is easier to make it trianular. But no point having it round even now, or I could forget and make it round! :( Thanks! What size should the drum room be? any reccomendations?
Yeah - that's it John - thanks for the donation mate :) I'd consider the single glass door though as one door won't give much STC. You can either add another door or go to a single wall with resilient channel and a double normal door and window system. cheers john
How is this? I'm still wondering about the drum room. What is an OK size for a small kit. I can get a double bass pedal! lol

Incredible. I have a space thats 21x22 that I was thinking of making into 2 rooms cause it would be so small. You guys are making 4 rooms out of it. Isane! I love it. So much cooler than 2 rectangle rooms. Is it really big enough? Anyone ever tried to use one this size in real life? Important question here: What are the actual measurements on these walls and stuff, and how in the hell do you lay out those angles in a real life situation? Tricky. Can someone print out this design in a 21x21 with actual wall measurement s and stuff?
Man this forum gives me trouble logging in bigtime... invalid session, invalid session, invalid session, user not known or bad password... rough Anyway, I have NO tools for this stiff, no protractor, no anything. I did manage to find some graph paper, so that helps. Here is what I did. I went to the SAE site and traced the corner CR design like this one above onto some wax paper (after taping the wax paper to the monitor, ha, telling you I have NO tools for this) After that I retraced over the waxpaper with a perm marker, and laid out the dimensions on the graph paper. I am considering each square on the graph paper to be 1 foot. The SAE drawing, when converted, would have worked out to be 22 by 17 feet. I then drew that out on the paper and added up the dimensions if my room were that size. The CR was kind of small for my liking. Then I went and drew my 21x21 space (21X22 technically) and added about 2 feet to all the CR dimensions. Then added up the dimensions for the other spaces. I can not beleive how this works out. I somehow went from planning 2 crappy rectangle rooms into have 4 usable spaces, and a decent control room design. It seems like I'm getting something for nothing somewhere own the line, free real estate space. I didnt start with. Seems like a smart design. Does anyone know where one of these might be already drawn out in a 21x21 or 21x22 size that I can print out? I have my wall angles slightly skewed I think during the redraw process (no protractor either!) Ok, some questions: on my redraw, my wall behind the speakers (probably will do soffit mount) went up to about 8 feet wide, and the widest area behind the mix position went up to 14 feet wide. Now, since I've always assumed I want a perfect triangle between me and the speakers, that would put me sitting like 8 feet back, with nearfields. Seems exessive, thats pretty far back. Should I narrow the wall behind the speakers, leaving the widest area behind me the same and just increase the angle where the walls meet the soffit. A broader angle is better anyway isnt it? And then this would bring me in closer to theat wall where I'm not out in the middle of the room. Good, bad? I would love to see some pictures and get some feedback from people that have 20x20 or so spaces, and how its working out and results you are getting. Peace Paul
Ive drawn this out in my garage. I am changing it because the drum booth is too small. BUT I can use it perfectly and put the drums in the main room. The vocal booth can fit 3 the main room could be a tinge bigger and the main room could but its a decent plan. I really like the design but its just a little too small. I think Im going do a 3 room design. Bigger rooms but a little compromise on the vox booth. I can do scratch vox the record in the large room and get perfect sounds.
so the main room works for drums? I would rather have the drums in the main room anyway, it only makes sense. Use the smallest room for the guitar amps I guess. I', almost tempted to go with the two room area, and use the area under me for amp isolation, that way I have bigger rooms. Its still tricky to draw out even with two rooms.

Still desiging this sucker... what would be a good 3 room design like mentioned above? Any layouts anywhere? Would it make the rooms slightly bigger, seems like it wouldnt help much really. Can anyone ration a guess to the wall angles in the control room of the above styled drawings? How in the hell will I get those framed correctly in the room?
