I have just emptied an 11x14 foot room in which i can create my music room. It is solid brick walls all round (single brick on 3 sides) with a concrete ceiling that is about 9 foot high. There is currently a nice wooden floating floor being put in. As it is, it sounds like you are locked in a box when you speak in there. I need some serious acousitc treatment. The thing is I will be recording electric guitar, piano and organ in there as well as mixing so im not sure if the conventional CR room design will fit my needs? I found this plan on the site and its almost very appropriate for my needs, The only thing is that the door into the room would be on the right hand side of the diagram, right down the bottom butting up against the backwall.

Will a plan like this work well for my needs? I can see the 2 slot resonators marked, would the 2 walls joining below be anything other than just plain walls? I assume the back wall i could make as indicated using johns flat panel trap wall unit? Now would a bass trap in the back lefthand corner be benefical? (similar to johns wall unit design? (the door is in the back right hand corner). Or would it throw the stereo image of noticebly? Maybe make the bottom half of the rear wall a bass trap? Any tips would be greatly appreciated... Ps. The room doesn't need to be soundproof, Its not attached to the house directly its off the side of the garage. Plus the neighbours are blocked by there garage. Current setup is just a PT equipped Mac system, Krk V4's (stands) and ST6's (soffits), 12 units of rack gear, guitar amp and 2x12, 3 guitars, keyboard and a vintage organ... Seems like a lot but its currently all in a 10x12 room and there is still enought room for guitar rock poses... I want to start the framing so i can get my electrician buddy in to add a couple of outlets.
Well Seeing as this is the Design we worked on for My Studio and the One I Built I could prolly give you some info on it. :) The rear side walls are actually false walls with Rockwool insulation (Semi-Rigid) Covered in fabric. The rear walls are the same. If you choose a double door scheme, make sure the inner door traces the angle of the rear wall. this will aid in not having sound baouncing back into your mix position. if you can do a glassless door, i'd cover the door with 1.5" 703 If you build the rearward walls (side and back) these are your Bass traps :) Of course Johns soffit design is up front. visit my website to see my equipment list. The ROOM is fantastic. The Samples (Last 3 on my samples page) are samples mixed in this room.
