best possible layout design

8) hi guys! i'm in the process of having a (2) car size building constucted, and was wondering what would be the best layout for live room, and control room? the overall dimensions are 30' x 28' typically how big can the control room be, and still maintain it's acoustical integrity? any help would be greatly appreciated! any drawings or diagrams would be even better!!! thanks!

Greetings! We'd be happy to help- there's enough people here that enjoy tinkering with studio design that someone will have a few minutes to put one together for you. There's a couple ideas for studio layouts in the SAE manual linked by the front-page of this forum for you to look at. And by the end of the day, I'm sure Giles will have a link to an existing design that is at least close to that size. =) However, if you want us to design something to suit your needs specifically, we need lots more detail. Given that size, I could design the perfect studio for ME, but you and I may need our studios to do different things. So we need to know more about what you want. What kind of music, what range of instruments, how many musicians in the live room at a time, blah blah blah. The more we know about what you want, the better we'll do.

8) sorry kase! i guess some more info would help! as far as the size of the control room i'm thinking of, it's going to be 16' wide x 12' deep with a 12' x 12' foyer/store room right next to that! leaving the live room about 28' wide x 18' deep. as far as musicians in the room it's probably going to be no more than (for right now) 4 @ a time. my daughter, my 2 sons, and myself. the type of music we're doing right now is just playing around with some cover tunes. anything from evanescence, and jewel to godsmack, alice in chains, to beatles, and led zepplin. my 16 yr. old who is the drummer is hoping to throw in a little slipknot!!! (loves joey jordason) and really, all i'm wanting to know is if the size of the control room is feasible as far as acoustics are concerned? i know there's going to be some corner treatments and such needed, i'm just not sure where the placements would be!! again thnks for any help!! gregg
