Well. I guess I never left it =) Anyway. After much thought, and speaking with my mother, who owns the place. She gave me access to the garage that is built onto this room that I have been trying to cram everything inside. I took a friend of mine out there who has built several studios in his passed. When we looked at it agian from that view, the building that I had in mind was not sutible for a long term studio. His suggestion is that I demo it and start over. Well thats not within my limited budget at the moment. So I went with the idea of converting the garage, which is in much better shape, concrete slab, newer wood, square walls etc... you know, basic stuff =) Ive included some pictures here, of the actual building. I will provide some more acurate diminsions this time as well. The garage area is appx: 12'x20 and attaches to "The Shed" (my original building) which is 16'x16'. My idea is to build the control room and a couple ISO booths in the Garage, This way i can build it out correctly. This building can stay if i ever decide to demo "the shed" and make new out there. Here are some pictures of the place: And here is a layout, with my design in it. It is not perfectly accurate, but it shows how I think the layout would work. Any input at all much appreciated. Thank you all agian!! -Abe
angle the sidewalls in your CR the other way, away from mixingposition. And also have the front wall in CR straight so it would be symetrical. I, personally would have the studio as just one room since the space is rather limited....
Good idea, saves me money =) I was just thinking of isolating the drums from everything. So that i could possibly use those tracks while Im doing scratch tracks. Yea, ill make the room more symetric for sure. It was late last night when I had that break through. Thanks ponk! -Abe
Ok. Here is my final offer. I took your advice Ponk, made the room symetrical, inverted the side walls, got the angles off of SAE. I like this design, It gives me another wall between inside of CR to outside in every direction. Please any comments. This building is just sitting there, with me looking at it waiting to strap on my nail bags. ( I used to be a carpenter in a passed.... experiance..) Im ready to rock ! =) Thanks agian everyone! This is a great site! -Abraxxus
Looks good, but you should consider a faster access route between control room and Studio.
Any suggestions for faster access between control room and Studio? I layed out the doors this way because I did not want to build doors into corners where I have my bass traps etc. Or through a double wall. I can do that if the suggestion comes through, but I just did not think it was a good idea. Maintaining room symetery seemed more important than Studio Access. What do you guys think?
Well, yes and no. Getting an overhead drum mic in just the right spot is going to be a monumental pain if you've gotta run around the outside to get there. If you set the mixing desk back from the front wall far enough, you could put in sliding glass doors instead of windows. I don't know how big your desk is- mine is pretty small, since all my work is digital. Looking better tho! Glad you can use the garage!
