Hi John, Guys! Ive got a building that is pretty small, I am expanding as much as I can. The original building is 16x16 with an 8' popout on the back, that Im framing in. So I have a 24' x 16' building to work with. The one thing I am stuck with is that wall in the back (noted in example A) That is the popout in the back of the building. I have to keep at least *some* of the framing up there for roof support. I have drawn up several layouts, and After i found this site ( which rocks by the way) I came up with example B & C. I like those two, I think they leave enough room to do what I need to and still have visibility for clients. My question Is, Will either of those 2 designs work? Or do you have anything for a small 24x16 room like this (that works with that darned wall in the back) Thank you In advance!!! I plan on starting the inside framing on Monday. Thats where my schedule has me to begin construction. Example A Example B Example C Thank you all! -Abraxxus -Mantis Studios
Not too bad of a layout. Try to make the control room symmetrical around the listening position, or it'll mess with your stereo imaging.
Thanks! By more symetrical, you mean just even out the front of the control room? or that and align the walls up more? Thanks agian, -Abe
beeing more symetrical meens, that when you have your head placed in mixingposition the distance to all walls should be the same, so you don´t get diffrent reflections from left and right (ofcourse in all 3 dimensions)
Im stuck with that wall between the control room and Studio B, thats a load bearing wall, and needs to stay. Thats my main limitation in the building. You said 3 positions, the 3 positions in front with the windows? or walls between Studio A & B are 2 positions, and front is 1 position? Thanks! -abe
He's just trying to explain symetry to you, all it means is this... Draw a line at the exact center of your control room from front to back and you should now have two identical halves. If the right wall is at 6 degrees to the front wall, then the left wall should be at 6 degrees as well. hope that helps
Here are 3 more Ideas.... Comments welcome.. I can take it! =) Agian, this building is 24' x' 16'
if you still didn´t get ptownkid´s explanation of symetry (alot better then mine =)..) the look att your 3 latest plans. Plan 1 and 2 has symetrical CR´s but the 3rd doesn´t. i would say plan 2 is the best. Perhaps the CR is abit small... hard to know without dimensions
Yea, I knew what symetry was, I was just asking if he meant the whole room or just the front 3 corners of it ;) It was late last night when I posted those last 3 designs, I should of explained a little bit. Of course, I am trying to be as efficiant with space as i can be, while maintaing a few things such as: 1. That darn wall in the corner 2. Visibility for clients 3. Drum Tracking room 4. Symetry in Control Room 5. 2 Small ISO Booths. 6. Enough room to work in the CR 7. Expandable in the future. The dimentions on the CR are roughly as follows: (design 2) 8' width at center of desk 11' width at rear 11' depth Thanks agian guys! -Abe
Can u specify the size of you iso booth
I met up with a guy that has designed some studios in his passed today. I took him to the location and we did some brainstorming. Im working now on another layout for the room.... So. Ill post that as soon as I get something done here. Thanks agian everyone! -abraxxus
I'd flip version 2. cheers john

Still working on design... As you can see in my Version 2 (the one John commented on), I am designing my CR from this site, every case ive seen Its that shape. Im still struggling with making it a little larger, so my question is this.. Is it more important to be long and skinny, or shorter and fatter? or, is it supposed to be more even all around? Thanks agian guys! Ill have some pics up of construction soon! Ive started the outside work allready. -abe
