though I really like the recording area in my studio (ca 6x6m with 3.5 cieling)I'm planning on building a drum booth inside. the main reson is to use the big room for live recording of band in situations where spill isn't an option, the second reson is that the studio is not isolated enough and loud drum sound lick out which might call for troubles (new office is mooving in above me...). the only neighbours are above me so how whould you devide my room? what deminsions would you do the drum booth? any construction tips? what materials should be inside of the booth ? absorbing (i hate recording drums in "dry" rooms)? wood? dry wall with acoustic panels? on what costs do i look planning build one? thanks a lot
Guy, are you on the ground floor? What is your floor made of? I'm asking because a proper floated drum room will be heavy - Also, I'm not sure where in the room you would put it - the obvious place has windows. There is no place else I can see that would not impact line of sight or mess up acoustics of the live room - have you given this any thought, or are we supposed to "pull a rabbit out of our hat" here? :? Can you give us dimensions from the left wall to the start of the opening between the CR and the live room, just in front of the small iso booth? Maybe a 3-sided wall in that corner would work? Size should be no smaller than 2M x 2.5M, and that would be tight. In order to be really effective, this would need to be a floated concrete slab with separate walls built on top, then a separate framed ceiling on top of those walls - it's not something you will be able to move around once it's finished...
