Hi! I've been reading the posts on this forum for some time now and just waiting to get my own space for a studio. Well now I do have the space at my brothers "ranch" but I do need some help  . There is this huge barn(two floors) and I got one end of the first floor to my use. I've also attached a drawing of my space. The whole area is about 75m2 and the ceiling hight is about 2,5m. There is this concrete support (up in about 2,2 meters)on the ceiling that splits the bigger rooms ceiling. All the surfaces I have drawn are concrete so outside noise is no problem. There are stairs to the second floor on the right side wall. So I was thinking I'd like to have one live studio, one dead studio and a control room(plus maybe a small booth for vocals). If anyone has any ideas of how to best use this space, I would be greatful for the help. I also have pictures of how the place is now if it helps. I'm going to keep taking pictures as we proceed if you are intrested. thanks in advance, Tomi Salmi
This is what I came up with so far... Comments anyone? -Tomi-
Not a bad layout at all. The only thing that jumps out at me is the window between control and studio A - if you can set it up so that the pane of glass is angled to send reflections away from the mix position, you'll probably be in good shape.
The window between the CR and studio a will be angled towards the back of CR. I've also added the measures of the place so youll get an idea of the size. I'm new with smart draw so excuse me for my drawings. I am not sure about the windows in the CR though. Could I keep the windows on the sidewall to bring some natural light to the studio? thanks again, -Tomi-
Here's another plan which I think is closest to what I was after. Now it has even bigger live room, a vocal booth and a "dead" drum room. I'm pretty pleased with this plan but the thing that bothers me is the CR. Does it work shaped like that? (and the CR window will still be angled, I just forgot about it while drawing) Please, help me in your infinite wisdom  -Tomi-

That looks nice, though the live room isn't as big. How about the support beam on the ceiling? It comes down about 40cm from the ceiling(in the middle of the room), so the room hight under the beam would propably be around 2m with the floor floated. How about the fake ceiling? What kind of shape would you recommend? I'm just wondering because of the ceiling hight. Thanks again... -Tomi-
Hello again :D I have yet another design I came up with last night. There are electric boards and a big heater on the right side wall, just right of the sliding door, that take approx. 1mx4m space so there needs to be either a corridor or a separate room built. There is also the support beam in the ceiling that splits the room in two. And these are the reasons for this new design. This design also includes sliding glass doors which brings me to the next question: how thick should the doors be? I called one local supplier here in Finland and they told me that the maximum thickness they could provide me with is 6mm glass. Is that enough? I'm even thinking about moving the CR wall a bit more leaving the air gap bigger between the CR and studio A to get more isolation. This is not necessarely the final plan since I'm starting construction after a month or so(well, at least not before I know what I'm doing... ) Give me anything you've got. -Tomi-
you forgot to post the pic cheers john
I see, well here goes... what about the sliding door thickness? 6mm enough? Do you have any names of makers/models suitable for studio?(internationally available) Thanks a lot -Tomi-
