OK. I've finally purchased a house and I have a space of 24'x22' to work with. First things first. What I would like out of the space. 1. A decent sized control room that can be accessed without having to go through the studio proper/live room. A place for a few people to sit in the control room. So enough space to hold them or a couch. 2. A live room suitable for drums. 3. One or two iso booths, depending on space, for vox and/or guitar amp iso. 4. A way for bands/artists to bring gear into the studio without going through the house. No need for a kitchen or a bathroom. As you can see in the drawing, the door on the left side of the drawing goes right into the kitchen. The wall on the left is 24' long from the front of the house to the back of the house. The wall at the front of the house and back of the house is 22' long. The space was originally a 2 car garage. As you can see, the previous owner turned the bottom part of the garage into a den area, by putting up a wall in between what is now the den area and the current garage space. This wall is not load bearing. Currently, there is a ceiling at 7 1/2 feet. The ceiling is completely floating and I'm going to take the ceiling out of the whole space and make it vaulted. At least this is what I'm thinking. Is this a good idea or no? The only thing that HAS to stay where it is, is the washer/dryer and hot water heater. This is the only thing stationary. I plan on taking out the wall that is separating what is now the den and the garage space, unless of course it can be worked into the design, but I have no problem removing it. The other thing is, how would one handle the current doors? entry? I guess I'm just asking for some help in designing something that would be functional in this space. I've read these forums non-stop now for quite a while now and I love some of the designs that have been put together, but I never quite grasp the measurements on some of the design layouts. I probably have about $5000 USD to spend right now, and I can do almost all of the work myself with the help of friends of course. So hit me up! What would you do with this space???? Here is the half-assed drawing I did.

yea. i've looked at all of those designs. i've looked at many other designs here on the forums as well. i just want to see if somebody could be creative in a design that dealt with the washer/dryer being stationary and whatnot. i do like the corner design on there, but i'm wondering if building out those walls, etc., can be done within my $5000 spending limit. i'd also like to see what people thought on dimensions of such a design like the corner design for the space i have to work with.
How far from your north wall is the washer?
the washer/dryer and hot water heater are about 3 feet from the north wall. they span about 8 feet long and 4 feet wide.
Ok, i've updated the picture to reflect the water heater and washer and dryer that need to stay where they are. anyone have any ideas as to how to maybe implement the corner studio layout while keeping the "rules" i've put above in my initial post? thanks!
i'm compiling qcad on my system now so i can hopefully make a drawing of what i think the studio should be. i'm sure i will be way off base, but i'm going to give the software a shot. i'm wondering if the control room should be in the lower left hand side of the picture so that you could walk through the door from the house into the control room? if you notice the door on the south wall as well, that would go outside to the back patio from the control room. is this a bad idea?
ok, i've done a drawing. there are a few things. i'm not sure how much extra it costs for double walls, that's why there aren't any besides what separates the control room and main live room. how much separation will there be with the way it's built out in this drawing? another reason for no double walls, is the price of sliding doors. i'm not sure i have enough cash to buy all of that stuff at the moment, and i would like to get a move on to build. it's not shown in the pic, but a window would of course be inbetween the main live room and the control room. and sliding doors on both sides of the control room to the live rooms/iso booths. so what do you guys think? any ideas? any manipulations?
