Hi, I finished building this studio about 6 months ago and I had time to gatter some gear. I wanted to thank everyone on this forum, John, Steve, barefoot, etc, all of you guys were a great source of knowledge for me and many other people. I didn't have a chance to post earlier this year on the forum because I wanted to have pictures. I don't have a digital camera but I got a cheap webcam. I took a few pictures, you can find them on http://membres.lycos.fr/tenkas/Studio/ If that doesn't work, just go on www.multimania.com/tenkas and click on Studio. That will get you to the directory with the pics. In the same folder, you will also find the layout of my studio. I only have rockwool (safe n sound) absorbant in the room, I have nothing on the ceiling, I have an regular 8 foot ceiling. I will try to attach the layout of my studio here:

I still have many rockwool sheets (24 inchs by 4 feet) and I also have drywall, wood, etc. If you have any acoustical advices, I would appreciate them profoundly. The only restriction is, I cannot destroy or drill anything permenantly (like Ethans on the wall traps). Thx guys
Thx Giles for the reply. I was thinking about building these, but there is one problem in my room, I have some "Moulure" (I don't know how to say that in English) on the bottom of my walls. Moulure is something you usually put in on the bottom of the wall to hide the gap between the wall and the floor. That said, I cannot put johns units directly ON the wall, there wll be a 1/2 inch or 1inch spacing between the wall and the back of the unit. Also, I would like to know where should I put the units? My room is fairly small (Especially because of the drum kit) and there is one corner (bottom right on the image) where there is not enough space to put a full size corner bass unit. Also, should I hang a few sheets of rockwool on the ceiling (which is parallel to the floor)? If so, where on the ceiling should I put those clouds? I know I am asking a lot of info from you guys, but I having read quite a bit, I still don't understand some principals of a good room. I may spend more time on the forum here, helping people who are building up studios, since I build mine from scratch, if anyone wants any information, you can e-mail me. So thx everyone
The english word for Moulure is molding - As to treatment, the first places you should place absorbent in your room are those places where, if they were a mirror, you could see either speaker reflected from your seat at the mix position - in your case, you would need to place some of your rockwool on the walls at each side, halfway between your speakers and your head; have a friend hold a large mirror against the wall and slide it along the wall as you sit in front of the speakers where you will mix - place a piece of tape on the wall where you just start to see either speaker, then place a second piece of tape where the OTHER speaker just disappears in the mirror - add at least 150mm to each side, and this is the area you need to absorb. Vertically, you should use at least a meter width material, centered where the reflection of the speaker shows between floor and ceiling. Next, measure between your head and the center between the speakers - half this distance should be the center of your "cloud", which should be at least a meter front to back and a meter and a half or more from side to side, centered between the side walls (your speakers also need to be equidistant from their respective wall) Beyond that, you may already have enough absorption in the room, only listening will tell for sure. If you want to build some of the wall units, don't worry about a small gap - if it bothers you, build a pedestal that is recessed in the rear (like the toe space under kitchen cabinets) so the unit can fit flush against the wall and still clear the Moulure... Steve
Great post Steve, I can't believe you guys, you are so helpful to everyone! I will check more in details when I come back from work, because I rarely understand everything the first time in English :P An other one here: Do you think bulding one or two corner basstraps will help absorbs the highs or should I just put a big wack of rockwool in the corner? and should I put a cloud on top of the drum also? And do you think the general layout of my room (desk, drum, etc) is good? thx again
Yeah, looking at your layout you will probably help the sound by using some corner absorption - even something as simple as a bale of fiberglass insulation (not opened) and stood up in the corners will make a difference. Be careful that you don't get too much high absorption though - if the room gets too dead, it won't sound natural and won't be pleasant to play in... Steve
