G'day, another long time reader that hasn't done much posting here. A quick thanks is in order (again) to all, I've learnt so much in the last couple of months (I hope) just reading this site.
Anyway, I have a small 'Grannyflat' at the front of my house that I would like to convert into my studio in the near future. Hopefully below is my design so far. Basically a pair of 6x3m (18'x 9') rooms with a ceiling that slopes from 8' to 9' with the 9' being in the centre where the two rooms meet. The black walls in my diagram are bessa-blocks (hollow concrete bricks). I hope to fill at least the external walls. I think the dividing wall will not matter as it will be more of an obstruction than a leaf (is this correct?). I will be working mainly with Rock and Metal bands so Isolation is quite important, the nearest neighbour is about 8 metres (24') away. Floor is carpeted concrete at the moment , but I will lay timber floors and will probably float them or build a floating drum riser at the very least. Budget is tight, but the only time constraint I have is keeping my patience in order, and I have several mates I can call upon to help out with the labour.
I guess I'm just looking for a little input to show whether I'm on the right track or not....
here we go again....

I'd reverse the Studio and booth for sightline reasons.
As it stands the engineer has to turn around a bit to see into the booth.
and also angle the sidewals in the control room away from mixingpositon instead of the current layout
Thanks chaps, had another play around and came up with this...
Is the besser dividing wall load bearing?? and if so could it be replaced with a beam??
cheers
john
I think it is Loadbearing, but I will investigate. If I could replace it with a beam that would open the hole thing right up...
Thanks John, now you got me thinking...
