Hi, I am new here and new to room design. I noticed that most of the rooms Mr. Sayers designs have wood paneling. So because different woods reflect sound in different ways, I was wondering is there a list out there that specifies reflectivity and frequency for different types or wood or wall materials?
Sorry if this answered some where else.
Sound reflection and absorbtion

Hi and welcome. You can try this link: http://www.saecollege.de/reference_material/index.html
It might not give you all the answer but a part of your questions, also check this sites out as they are good: http://www.ethanwiner.com/acoustics.html#rfz

Good luck and welcome here.

if i´m not misstaken, the majority of woodtypes reflect/absorb sound just about the same. The experts have to correct me if i´m way out here...
The Kaj, I will have to have good read through and digest it all. Any Idea where I find a graphical reference? :D
There doesn't seem to be much difference due to species of wood, more the thickness and support behind it - although, different species have noticeably different mass for the same thickness. The main parameter is density per square measure of area, as expressed in the formulas for panel resonators.
If you back a light wood panel with two layers of gypsum wallboard, it will react much differently than the same panel with only insulation behind it; it's also dependent on the depth of the cavity behind the panel, and even somewhat on the wall backing the cavity (concrete, brick, block, more gypsum, etc - all will somewhat affect the result, but most of it is the front panel weight/cavity depth/insulation)
Here's a calculator for panel absorbers that may help -
http://www.mhsoft.nl/Helmholtzabsorber.asp
The panel absorber part is down the page a bit - do NOT, repeat NOT, use the slat or helmholtz calculators on this site because they are WRONG - instead, use the modified ones posted in our acoustics forum.
If you want the actual formula, here's a page -

For coefficients of a ton of stuff, check out bob gold's page, don't remember where the link is right now... Steve
That'll teach them for using my wrong formula without my permission :):) cheers johnThe panel absorber part is down the page a bit - do NOT, repeat NOT, use the slat or helmholtz calculators on this site because they are WRONG - instead, use the modified ones posted in our acoustics forum.
I almost fell off my chair when I read that! AndreThat'll teach them for using my wrong formula without my permission
Thought you might like the irony there 8)
This is great stuff Thank you all Kindly.
