We want to do the usual trick and use John Sayers reverse stud wall method but don't want to spend $50/metre on fabric to cover it. Does anyone know where to get suitable stretchy porous material in Australia with a reasonable range of pastel colours?
G'day Chris I guess you thought you were the only one on this list in Canberra who is having trouble getting fabric for wall coverings? I emailed the Australian Acoustical solutions rep the other day, (Siesmic Innovations) haven't yet received a reply. I'll ring them in a day or so if they don't respond. I'll be looking at purchasing a bolt, so that should drop the per meter cost quite a bit. Your radio station is one of the best in Canberra! Cheers
Thanks for your comments! Oh what a small word we live in heheh I have also contacted the company ytou suggested. If you come up with any other suggestions would be grateful if you could let me know! I assume your application is for loudspeaker covering, or do you also have a studio? Regards Chris Ph 0419 311 918
G'day again Chris I was specifically looking for an open weave fabric to cover wall treatments. I'm about to start building a new music/HT/demo room. Isolation is no problem (at least 100mm concrete on all surfaces) but the room needs a lot of absorbtion on the walls/ceiling and a pair of large bass traps in the rear corners. I'll need to cover around 75m^2 in fabric. The speakers will be hidden behind this fabric so it has to be completely transparant, acoustically. My initial searches have found Autex polyester to be about the most cost effective absorbtion in this town. It's nice to work with, too, and is available in black, so it won't show though the walls. I might use rockwool for the bass traps (like these: http://www.bobgolds.com/TrapHarder/home.htm ) but much larger. The polyester would be a bit harder to cut accurately and stack. Hi Just for the record, we finally settled on "Duet" fabric sold by Macquarie Fabrics. They have a wide range of colours and patterns and the "Duet" variety is quite cheap for a 60% wool content. Check out their website.
