As with any novice in this forum, I'd like to begin by expressing my gratitude to the construction gurus in this forum. You guys rock! Well fellas, I'm finally ready. I need help designing a basement pre-production studio. Here's a list of details: My budget is roughly 3k-4k I'm looking to have a vocal/drum booth and control room I will not have a large console, I will be using possibly Yamaha 02r96, or a RADAR system w/ Logic and a nice amount of outboard gear I have a hammond A100 organ w/ 122 leslie and 3 keyboards I want my vocal/drum booth totally isolated. I need a laundry room next to the crawl space I don't necessarily need a raised floor The area by the HVAC and hot water heater (with the 6' ceiling) will be storage. So, I would like that area along with the HVAC and water heater to be a utility room. Right now I can't think of any more details that are needed. I'd be happy to supply more. The blueprints of my house are below. Thanks in advance for your expertise! Fresh_Oil

Kinda difficult to read from this jpeg. Can you mark this up or redraw it (smartdraw??) for what you are desiring. :)
I enlarged the blueprint at the top. Let me know if it's better. Fresh_oil
Enlarging is nice. I was asking you to do some of the dirty work by marking up your graphic file to show what rooms are intended to be what..... then we can easily proceed. We are here to help you but you need to give us enough starter info to make the proecess as seamless as possible.
Sorry, I'm learning to be more detail oriented. (smile)

Much better :) Your space selction is nice. with you doing all the construction yourself. you can eek out the 2 rooms you want to build with the ISO for around that budget. Unfortunately I dont have a graphics program that I own for the purpose of importing your layout and fitting what i envision on top of this floor plan. Perhaps John can come along and help or Dymaxian. he has very good ideas :)
maybe something like this?? cheers john

John I like the layout, but it won't work for me. I have to have a laundry room in the basement. I placed the laundry room next to the crawl space so we won't have to drag our storage in and out of the studio. On your layout, the control room is right off of the crawl space. If you would, will you do a layout for me that will be similar to the blueprint I posted earlier. It seems to be the only layout my wife and I agree on. (smile) Again, I really appreciate your help. Like this? cheers john

John- Can you please edit your image to include some dimensions for the drum room? It would be a great help with scale... Thanks jpmanis
I kneqw John would SLAM!!! this :)
John, thanks a lot. I really like the design! I agree with jpmanis...can you give us an indication of the dimensions you have in mind? Fresh_oil

Nice topic, I've following it, just haven't had anything useful to add. Regarding the dimensions, John's development is done your drawing. Scale it! Andre
Andre - - my name's sake!! (my real name is Andrae' too) Thanks for your reply. I'm not much of a 'construction' guy but I'll try to scale my basement with my drawing as good as I can. The problem I'm having is trying to decide which way to do my basement walls for total isolation. Should I do the staggered studs technique, or should I do what Silva Productions did....(plastic to cover the concrete wall of the basement, insulation, drywall, wood frame w/ rockwool, then another layer of drywall)? Either way, I don't know how much footage I'd lose on the basement walls so I can't accurately draw to scale. Does anyone know how thick the walls would be for both methods? 1ft? 2ft? 3ft? etc... Andrae' a.k.a.....Fresh_oil
Try This ;) cheers John

Great! You clarified what you wanted and John replied. I can't see it, but certain it helps a lot with the wall construction and size. God luck Andre! Andre
John - thanks a bunch! You are really a blessing! Everyone - For the process of designing the layout of my basement with accurate dimensions, I need a few more questions answered. 1.)Should I do the staggered studs technique, or should I do what Silva Productions did....(plastic to cover the concrete wall of the basement, insulation, drywall, wood frame w/ rockwool, then another layer of drywall)? 2.)Does anyone know how thick the walls would be for both methods? 1ft? 2ft? 3ft? etc... I'm basically looking for the best way to give me complete isolation without losing a significant amount of space in my basement. Fresh_oil
