I was wondering about windows between control room/tracking rooms and iso booths....... I was wondering about the complexity of them, and the cost, to maintain an effective STC rating as the structure, the window(s) are placed in... With the advent of plasma tv's and LCD monitors.........I wonder about the sense of using a LCD monitor or plasma screen, hung off the wall, in place of the Window, and a digital camera .............. I can see a point, we may be there already, where this is cheaper than windows... You can take the idea further........... You have a LCD screen and camera in each iso room, everything goes thru a video and audio matrix mixer, which each room (or just the engineer) has control of...so sitting at the mix postion, looking at the LCD monitor, I could select to see the drum room, the iso booth, the kitchen, whatever, and have it appear in the "window" space in front of me......and those in the iso booths, could select whoever they wanted in their screen. I can also see with internet speeds getting faster, pcs getting faster, all the gear getting cheaper.....when one day we will be able to virtually record with each other in real time, or maybe link up with session players via the internet in real time, and "cue mix" via mp3 or whatever, and then transfer the 24 bit files, after the session........ just a wonderin........ I dont know if it is any cheaper than glass but it certainly helps to keep a tighter room. I am at this crossroads actually right now. The wall between my control room and live room is structural. To be able to fit a window I have to move and add structural beams and studs. I dont know that it will be cheaper than glass but using cameras and monitors would be much easier for me, and I wouldnt have to worry about all that loss in stc and soundproofing. My only worry is how musicians will feel. Will they lose the vibe by not looking through glass or will they even care? I would like to see examples of people who have used these systems. What kinds and feedback from their clients.
I could buy four acoustic sliding glass doors for the price of one plasma screen here ;) $4K+ cheers john
yeah true...8^) but what about LCD type.....?? You know how the price of things comes down...how feasible do you think it is... Wiz
hey john im also in aus, and im wondering where i could get those accoustic sliding doors from? Sounds interesting :)
It's not a bad idea, aside from the price of all the gear you'd need to buy. The only other downside is that you need space to put all those monitors in the control room, which from what I've seen is cluttered enough- now it'll look like the security station you see in movies, with a half-dozen camera monitors near the desk... *shrug*
