what kind of door. You didnt give us a lot to work with.
sorry man, door is regular door? nothing fancy here, not pre-hung.
door that needs to come out is 24"
door going in is 36"
there is sheetrock on both sides of the wall, no insulation between leafs.
does this help?
thanks!!
Not sure of jersey prices, seems high to me though just to remove a door and seal up the wall and bust open another wall drop in a header and install another door.
but then does that cost include the door? If that is just labor I dunno. Drywall is not expensive work around here.
thanks a lot, bryan!
yeah, labor seems 'soprano-like' out here, if ya get my drift!
i already have the doors given to me... just need 'em hung. i'll keep looking though, thanks again!
I feel you I remember jersey being expensive from all the times I have been there.
May seem like a silly question, but you only got one quote?
My rule of thumb when dealing with things I am not familair with is get at least three quotes and then go from there.

(edit as in added after some thought)
It seems reasonable depending on what are asking for. If it is to a finish ready for high quality painting, the quote is quite reasonable. At least three trips involved (tear down, install new wall, cut new opening install new door trip one. Sand, second mud second trip. Sand third trip).
Regardless of your location and size of job, some things are constant. Time to your place, getting equipment out, cleaning and packing equipment. With a smaller job these constant prices are spread over less "final product" cost, so the cost is higher.
i'm getting another quote soon, there was someone here tonight but he said he'll get back to me... there is no new wall to be put on except inside the house where the old door was. i have to get the insulation, caulk, rc and 2 layers of drywall w. screws for the new wall.
thanks for the help guys!
Let us know how it turns out! The cost and everything please.
Andre
i ended doing the work myself and saving $500. thanks for all your help!
that's always the best solution if you have the time and know how. the problem with getting the lowest quote is that often they won't do a good job
