Hello all,
I have been reading this excellent forum for a while. I have been planning to construct a home project studio for the last few years, but I was waiting to move into the new house that was finally built and we moved into it last month.
So, I now have a 14'x29' space in the basement with 9' ceiling (8' after finishing). This will be used for a DAW project studio. This is what I have come up with as far as the design and I would really appreciate your input on it.
Please comment on the studio design

That's looking fine Shaz - you just need to add some trapping in your corners as I've indicated.

Thanks so much for a fast reply John!! :D I do have a few more questions before I start on this, I hope you can help.
I really don't need ISO2, do you think that I can use that space in the control room and still come up with a good design?
I added ISO 2 to:
1- Avoid having the basement window in the control room and get some more Isolation from the window
2- Get non-parallel walls in the control room while still keep the vocals booth where it's at right now
3- Not have all my equipment against the back wall where the utility access is, just in case it starts leaking water. Same case with the basement window.
I would prefer to have a larger control room, but if you think this is the best scenario then I will go ahead and stick with this plan.
Thanks again and I really appreciate your time.

The limiting factor is how far apart you can get the speakers without placing the sweetspot at the rear wall.
This is one way to widen the room

John,
This looks good! I am however facing two issues with this, I have two synths that will go on either side of the desk and with those I might not have enough room for the couch in the back.
Also the basement window is a fire escape window and I am not sure if I will be able to cover it off, sucks!
I guess I will go with your first suggestion of adding bass trapping and adding the door to enter the control room. I can probably use the ISO2 for storage or another small sitting area. Thanks again for all your help!!

John,
I was planning to build the two control room walls at 12° each. Is that how you recommend it or is it 6° for each wall to get a combined 12° offset?
I read some of the other posts and now I am really confused. 6° on each wall will probably give me slightly more room in the control room I guess so, I would like to do that if possible. But if I change it to 6° then the walls for ISO 1&2 will be 6° not a combined 12° :? Are the 12° angle only needed in control room for monitoring?
Thanks
Shaz
Ideally it should be 12 degrees each making a total of 24. - less degrees is only recommended when space is a limiting factor.

ok cool :D Thanks for clearing this up.
