Firstly i would like to bestow my most sincere compliments and thanks to all the people who contribute their precious time and knowledge to help others who are afflicted with this obsession we share ("This thing of ours" FUHGEDDABOWDIT!). Hopefully, eventually, I will have absorbed enough knowledge to return this favor. You are all fantastic. I have been lurking for about 5 months, soaking up as much info as possible. This is the first time I have ever tried to post (on any forum) with pics. Forgive me if it is done incorrectly.
On to the business at hand.
My family and I purchased our first home about two years ago. I have spent every spare minute, nights and weekends remodeling the entire interior. It was a major undertaking. Time consuming and expensive.
The reward is this. I have a small spare room that was an addition to the house prior to our purchasing it. It is on a seperate slab (great). But has very low ceilings (Not so great). It was actually a rear patio that was poorly enclosed. I plan on doing some major work over the next several months to whip this thing into shape. This project will include leveling the floor, fixing some poor framing work, some serious soundproofing work including attenuated ventilation and some type of high STC door assembly. I will spare you the generic "How do I soundproof my room?" questions. I have spent endless hours reading just about every post as far back as they are archived. I realize this will be time consuming and expensive. I just want to absolutely maximize the meager capabilities of the space I have to work with. So over the next few months I will do the studio diary bit.
To begin with instead of asking any specific construction questions, I will post some pics of the raw space and a few sketches with dimensions. Maybe you will see something that will jump out at you, a suggestion that comes to mind based on what experiences you have had working on your own space. Before i begin any construction, i need to plot out my room layout. This will be one large area that will have to accomodate :
A recording desk, 2 fullsize 4x12 cabs, a fullsized bass cab, a full sized drum-set and 5 people. Yes I know. It is the quintessential undersized cheezy rocker practice/recording space. But it is all I've got. And I'm not getting any younger. This wiil probably be my last chance to play in a band. So if you have any suggestions of where to put the desk in this acoustically challenged space it would be a great start. Here are the pics.
