hey people,
i have a control room and an empty space of about 4.75 x 3m. Now, i would like to split the room and make a vocal booth and a small recording area but ive seen some small studios record vocals in the recording area and not a recording booth.
To have more room could i treat the room accousticaly so i could record instruments and vocals in one room instead of splitting the room in two?
Are there any major disadvantages of this over a seperate vocal booth?
studio space, 1 or 2?

Major? Nope. if you use a computer the fan noise will get on the track but I can send you to ton of tracks I cut like that... and after the mix you never knew that noise was there. :)
Hmmm. If you use a tape machine the mechanical noise will be there. Monitoring on Headphones. I hate that, but had to do it to get the project done.
And any clicking from your keyboard or mouse.
But nothing MAJOR.
well the computer is in another room as is the control room. this room is seperate to the control room but i want to record instruments and vocals in it.
Will there be a problem with air noise when recording vocals? ( ive heard this happens)
What kind of "air"noise? I've never known static air to make noise. Maybe an HVAC grill, an open window or fan moving air, or a someone blowing into a MIC :) but not static air. fitZWill there be a problem with air noise when recording vocals?
I know when we recorded my wifes 1st 6 songs on her album the Studio hadnt been conceived or built.
So we had to turn off the heat (it was in December when we cut vocals and it was cold up here) and wait till the dogs stopped barking. It was workable. :)
Naaaaaaaww, it doesn't get cold in Detroit Patrick, only in Ireland :P fitZ (it was in December when we cut vocals and it was cold up here)
Funny, real funny Fitz. LOL.
ok people ill re-phrase the question. Could i record instruments and vocals ( at seperate times) in a room of 4.75 x 3m. Or should i use a vocal booth for the vocals?
thanks
With hte space that youare tlking about, I would definitely make it one room. You can make a karge room sound small, in this case by dedenng it more, but you can not make a small room sound larger. You can put some variable panels in the room to adjust the acoustics for any instrument (the voice is an instrument too).
