Hello! I have been reading a few placed on the web and collecting ideas for a garage/shed studio.I have about 15' x 26' x 28'to build inside and have been planning on building a new room inside of the existing garage. My question is regarding not parallel walls. Outside of being more work, if i was to build the new room with no parallel surfaces. The idea stems from speaker boxes (as this is sometimes marketed by loudspeaker makers as "eliminating standing waves" and so forth). Outside of being a royal pain, are there any advantages? Drawbacks? Is the behavior unpredictable?
thanks much in advance

new room/a couple ideas

The idea behind non-parallel walls is mainly to kill flutter echoes. It may seem like a pain in the ass, but in the end it's probably the most effective way to accomplish this. The standing wave issue is helped a lot by this as well, but the primary reason is for flutter.
And yeah, you can buy or build diffusors and absorbers to cover all your walls, but that'll almost always be more expensive than just setting the walls slightly off-kilter when you build them. As far as control rooms go, you can use the angles of the walls to direct reflections to the back of the room, instead of toward the listening position.
There's ways you can make a rectangular room sound good, but it's easier to start with a better sounding room. You can make a bad room sound acceptable, or you can make an acceptable room sound great.
hey, thanks for the reply. i found a book that discussed this topic and the results look pretty promising.
it does seem like a pain to build, but i think i am going to opt for it.
