Hey everyone,
I'm new here and to studio design/building. I read a post where somone submitted a drawing of their basement - and one of the members cam up with a really cool design and use of their space for them. Could someone help me with some cool ideas?
THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!
Could Someone Come Up With A Slick Studio Design For Me?

Well, you could help people start by posting a drawing of your space with the dimensions.
Woops - Sorry, I went through the upload process but BMP's are not allowed. Here's a JPG...
:-)
It might take a day or so for people to come up with ideas just so you'll know.
In the meantime you can checkout a fellow forumer's studio that was laid out by John:

Yeah, I would think that... I hope somebody can come up with some cool ideas to get me thinking in a new direction. Let me ask you a good question here: I've read about a bible's worth of info on building good STC-rated walls. I hear SO many conflicting stoires about types of layers, number of layers, sound-deadening boards, etc... Can you tell me YOUR construction method used in your studio? Did it seal out a bands noise? What I'm planning on doing is this: (because I HAVE the space) I'm going to constructt the walls as follows.
All walls that are "inside" the studio - (except the iso-booth) - will be double walls. as well as the control/live room dividing wall.
All framing is metal studs.
The layers I came up with like this:
5/8" rock
thick Plastic (like a garbage bag)
1/2" Homasote
stud - with 3" Rockwool insulation
3-4" dead air space
stud - with 3" Rockwool insulation
1/2" Homasote
Plastic
1/2" Rock
Outter layers or rock will be "rock-to-rock" screwed to the Homasote.
All track will get caulked - generously
What do you think of this?
Thanks You Much!!
That information is all over this site. Check the stickies in the Studio Construction section. 99.98% of what you will need to know and understand will be there. Send me your e-mail address to: [removed]Can you tell me YOUR construction method used in your studio?
Why the plastic, that won't really stop any serious sound. It all depends on how much isolation you need, how much space you have and how much money you want to spend. The USG Handbook and Complete Section stickies in the Studio Construction section will be your primary resouce. I suggest after getting a design set up you post all wall building questions to the Studio Construction so they will get answered faster. If you have the money you could contract with John Sayers like I have to custom design your area. He has a couple of different wall layouts depending on your situation.
It´s true, the information on this site and SAE combined will quite quickly let you into the mysteries of acoustics and soundproofing. I recently spend some time checking the same things out as you are trying to and I realised that 95% of what you need to know is basically not up for discussion and very well covered on this site, as for the last 5 % it´s very much a matter of opinion and taste.
Also some idea of what you need in the space would be helpfull. Just a live and control room, or also a drum room, or also an isolation room? How many players and what instruments are you expecting?
I want to have a control on the right side of the drawing and the live room on the left side. Of course, glass should be in between. I plan to use this studio for my own music, and or up to a 5 or 6 member band. Hopefully I could get some bands to come down and record their CD's with me. thanks, - BradAlso some idea of what you need in the space would be helpfull.
