Dear John and freinds, Mate great site it has been invaluable for my growth as a home/serious studio.... Though 90% I have been able to navegate around your site to seek anwsers this time thou Im alittle lost :( I have 3x3.5 main mixing room and a brand new vocal booth(sounding awsome Cheers!!) I have bulit a small functional computer storage cabenet which holds 4 computers nice and snug sound proofed nicely ventalated correctly as to not leak any unwanted fan or scsi noise. I have now got it ventalated Via a 150mm (6") insulated ducting and it keeps them all nice and cool, but heres the thing.... I keep killing the fans  Im up to number 3 in as much as 3 months and the guy down the local hydroponic shop anit happy with all the warrenty returns he ashores me that in 10 years I am the first.... :x I think it may be from loading the fans to pull the air through the cab.???(i do alowe enough air into the room) currently it is winter and I have a small spilt system aircon that struggles to cope with summer in QLD... now I have a ducted system that removes around 1 cubic meter a second of air from the room... im shore during summer im in the poo?!?!? What do I do? how do I cool the room and the scsi loaded boxes quitely? with having to spend 1000's im stuck for expantion untill I move to another premise(3 years at best) plus I need access to the boxes quite regulary while on the fly.... :?
If it's bearings that are going out, try reversing the flow - most fans expect to see more static pressure at the outlet than at the inlet; by reversing the flow (turning the fan around) you will preload the motor bearings to the opposite side, and the fan may like that better.) If it's failing electrically, there is just too much restriction for that specific fan, and you would need to find a different one. Possibly something in the centrifugal (squirrel cage) type, if you're not already there. A few more details of opening size, box size, fan type, etc, would help... Steve
The box is 4'x3'x3.5' (L/W/D) the exsort outlet from the box to the fan is a 6" outlet same as the fan size and insulated ducting which is only 10' long.... thou where I might have the probs is with intake it is only 4.9" and the rest is pulled through the not so sealed front doors... I dont have any intake ducting just an opening to the box which has like a S bend of 5" duct to reduce noise..... surprizingly even without the S bend intake the whole thing is very quite until i do the bearing in the fans.....no I am unaware of a centrafuge type fan? I only know of the inline standard hydroponic type fan unfortunatly I cant reverse the flow due to soundproofing I would have to have the fan 3' from my mointors if i was to push instead of pull... I have orderd the same fan type but a better model is there another should be moving to? possibly double the size with a speed variable speed controler so it has much more torque...???
