So I have this oddly shaped room that is not very large and can't really be modified (it's a room in my home). I know that it needs bass trapping just based on what I'm hearing in the mixing position and what I hear building up in the low end in the corner of the room. I've also used ARC2 to kind of get a feel for how bad things are and this also points to the need for more bass trapping so I ordered a couple boxes of Roxul Rockboard 80, Mineral Wool Board - 2" to try and deploy in the room to get me going in the right direction. I've provided the best layout I could do myself here:
The ceiling is 12 feet high. I've noted putting LENRD traps from floor to ceiling in one corner and just a single 3 foot high LENRD trap in the other corner. The 2" Auralex panels are placed just above head level, clearing the height of my monitors and other gear in the room:
I've shown in red here, where I actually have room to deploy the Roxul:
Where I have the most open space is in this corner furthest away from me, which is also where I am hearing the most low end build up. I can really only put the Roxul up high in the corner of the ceiling there because of the equipment in the room:
I bought enough felt from JoAnn's to cover each of these 2" panels individually.
My issue is in trying to deploy the Roxul most efficiently. I've read and seen some of the tests you guys have done here that show that stacking the panels doesn't result in better performance. I've read where someone said something about having space behind the panels, sort of being extruded from the wall. So I am wondering if I need to try and mount them to the ceiling along the long edge so that they are hanging down like in a row and if so, how far apart do I space them from each other? Do I also place them around the room and do I need to leave 2" of space behind each panel?
Any help you guys could suggest would be most appreciated.
Thanks!
