Hello to the forum
Following guidelines given in this forum and reading a lot of post I´ve been building home recording studios trying to improve with each new experience. Recently I atempted the construction of a Mastering/Mixing room in a space which planted many challenges. The main one was the small space I had to deal with. My idea was to try to make the best possible with what I had and the knowledge acquired here and in other sources of info.
Now I´m in the final state of sound treatment, I made some measurements with Room EQ Wizard and I´m having problem with the interpretation of the data provided by the program.
I´ve destinated some panels to build slat Helmholtz resonators but I have doubts about which frequencies I should control and this is why I´m asking here for advise and counseling.
Here is some data about the space.
Room dimensions before sound isolation:
3.30 width
4.50 long
2.30 high
After soundprofing with double layer of 9mm gypsum the space got
3.10 W
4.20 L
2.20 H
Here´s a pic of the room with some framing going on
Help building Helmholtz Slat Resonators

Being the room so small I decided to build floor to ceiling panels with 703 and 2 1/2" fiber glass inside. The panels are 20cm deep. The corner ones are of course a little deeper.
The front wall is 100% absorption and in the sides I want to build slat resonators. I already built the sealed frames and I need to cut the slats and install them according to the frequencies I want to treat. For deciding which frequecies to treat I did a sound test using Room EQ Wizard but I need help with the interpretation of the results.
Here is a pic of the room as it is right now, later I´ll post the graphs from the analisys.
Ok, now here is the pics of the analisys. Fist is with the room with no sound absorption, just the empty room.
Now the pics for the analisys with the sound treatment already inside. My idea is to build slat resonators in the sides and some diffusion or absorption in the back wall. That depends on what you cand recommend me to be the best for having the room properly treated as possible.
Finally here is a pic of my untreated back wall. I´m not sure about how to treat this wall, if going the absoption or diffusion way.
So, for what frequencies do you think I should build the slat resonators?
Thanks
Ed.
Hello to all
I see some people have watched my post. It is really important for me to have some kind of input about this. I´ve been delaying my studio construction waiting for some info from here.
Well, I will really appreciate any help you can give me guys.
Thanks
Ed.
Hey Ed,
Not sure if you've solved this already, but from what I've read here on the forum I've understood that a somewhat small room like yours should have a rear absorber rather than diffuser.

A rear wall absorber without slats (at the bottom of the following page) seems like it would be best for your situation in my opinion.

Nice looking room!
