Hi all Just wondered if it's possible to 'make your own' laminated glass using acoustic PVB interlayer and sheet glass. I can't seem to find anywhere that sells interlayer here in the Uk, which makes we wonder whether it's commercially available and possible to do as a DIY project. Any ideas?
From what I've read about glass, I would have to say that it's not impossible, but the equipment and materials needed would make it not worth the effort or cost involved.
I agree with JC. The laminating process needs heat and pressure to bond the interlayer to the glass properly. I doubt it would be possible to do that easily at home. - Stuart -
Thanks. What about just placing 2 sheets of glass next to each other in the frame without actually bonding them? - or using a thin sheet of non-adhesive, glass-like plastic as an additional material in between 2 sheets of glass (to give a degree of isolation between them)? The proper VB interlayer glass is horrendously expensive - I'm thinking that regular glass sheets made up to the required thickness and held in place might suffice?
