Green Glue Pros And Cons
Originally posted at johnlsayers.com, topic 19618.
Yes, Green Glue does work as advertised. They have published the results of extensive tests done in independent acoustic laboratories, and the results show that it does work. It is a visco-elastic polymer that acts as a constrained layer damping compound when used between large flat layers of flexible mass, such as drywall, OSB, plywood, MDF, fiber cement, etc.
The drawback is the cost: it is not cheap, and you need lots of it.
Bottom line? If you need high levels of isolation for low frequencies, then it is worthwhile. If you only need moderate levels of isolation, then you can live without it.

Thank you for the fast replie. Would you say i needed it for my live room where i will be recording live bands?
That depends on how much isolation you need! :)
Designing the isolation plan for your studio should be based on real numbers, not guesses. So you should figure out how many decibels of isolation you need, and what frequencies you need it at, then design the isolation to achieve that. It might well involve Green Glue if you need a lot of isolation at low frequencies.

I can tell you from first hand experience that the product works as advertised Michael (if applied correctly and at the recommended rate). But as Stuart has pointed out, it's not cheap and you do need a lot of it.
