Hi all, I would like some quotes for a one off studio design. - Its a 20 foot Shipping container. - not yet purchased, still deciding if it should be a high cube or standard. (standard = cheaper of course) - It will live in my backyard, residential area. - Designer to be able to supervise my testing results as build develops. - Its to be a mix/composition facility 1st, a movie watching/music listening room 2nd, (couch!) and if simple recording can be done inside thats a bonus but not a priority. (I record only 5% of the time) - I write dancefloor music and need a space where I can work without hearing rain on the roof, or the neighbours baby crying, and also not be the cause of the neighbours baby crying. Its got to feel private, sound private. I want to release the muse... alone... - Good ventilation so i can put in the long hours. - There will be a subwoofer and some near midfields inside. Currently I have PMC TB2 passives and TLE1 sub but I would like the design to be able to support a simple/fast swap out if I change the speakers. - functional and clean design to assist in the creative mood, and remove distractions. - Support choosing an appropriate heating/cooling/ventilation unit. - Ability to attend the build in person would be a bonus, Melbourne Australia. - Quote needs to include follow up support in the build/implementation of your design. Thanks for your time, any advice appreciated! :) cheers all Evan
Your best bet is probably contacting John directly, since he has already built studios in containers before, and very successfully. So I'd suggest contacting him by PM. I'll also PM you with some suggestions and comments on your post ... - Stuart -
edit. have contacted John.
Hmm so I haven't received a single quote from this forum. Am I doing it wrong?
Nope! You are not doing it wrong at all. In fact, you seem to be doing things right! :) But I'm pretty sure that nobody here will give you a quote unless John can't take on your project for whatever reason. Those of us who do offer design services here respect the fact that this is John's forum, not ours, and we are only helping out here by John's invitation. So we'll only quote for a project if John isn't able to do it himself. It's just a matter of ethics, not anything that you did or didn't do. There just aren't that many good and ethical studio designers around, and those of us who participate on this forum all respect each other, so we won't be trying to grab projects from others, especially not from John. As far as I'm aware, the situation on Gearslutz is different, since it isn't owned and operated by a studio designer, so probably anybody would be willing to quote over there. I'd suggest that if you don't get a reply from John, then PM us individually (the moderators). I'd also suggest that it would be a good idea to be wary of quotes you get after broadly publishing a request on the Internet! It would probably be a good idea to carefully check out the people who send you quotes, check out the work they have done, and ask for references from their clients. It's real easy to pretend to be someone or something on the Internet... - Stuart -
OK thanks Stuart, Ill sit tight a while longer. Cheers!
