So, thanks to unforeseen increases in my household income, I may well be able to build the studio that I've been treating as a pie-in-the-sky dream for the last 10 years. Of course, I'm looking about 8-10 years before construction will start, but with a desire to become as informed as possible, I'm starting immediately to gather the information I need. Here's what I do know: 1. It will be a separate building on the same lot as a yet un-purchased home. 2. It will be 800-1200 sq feet. 3. It will have control room, live room, machine room, bathroom/kitchen, and perhaps two ISO rooms. Depends on the budget we'll have. 4. I am thoroughly convinced of the need to hire professionals to handle the details of construction. My question regards number four. I have a good friend who is a gifted architect, a bro-in-law who is a general contractor, and I would like to find a local acoustician to consult with the architect on the design. (I'm in Utah.) I know both my architect friend and my bro-in-law have the necessary connections with any sub-contractors who will be needed. The thing is, would this trio be enough? The acoustician would be the only person with experience building a recording studio. Any other type of professional I should be considering? My thing is just wanting to work with local folks who I know - as much as possible, that is. Thanks in advance for any tips anybody has!
Hi Nathanael. Welcome. There is an announcement at the top of the forum about what to do to assure getting as many responses as possible. The announcement leads to this post (click here). Actually, several people, who are experts on this forum, will most likely not reply if you don't do what is written in that post. Many others who are very helpful, will most likely not reply out of respect for the moderators' wishes. - Stuart -
