would it improve sound isolation if the footer for the 2x4 studs to be nailed to on the inner wall had 3" gaps in it so it was not one who solid piece only 2 studs per footer to remove flanking paths?? any isolation improvement in coating screws in green glue?

Not really, no. The footer (sole plate) still has to be attached to the subfloor with bolts, nails, or screws. It cannot just sit on top, with no attachment. Not only is that unsafe, it is also illegal in most places around the world. So there is still a flanking path. In addition, the sole plate serves many purposes at once: it keeps the base of the wall in line, prevents the bottom end of the studs from twisting, and provides a nailing surface for the bottom edge of the drywall. So you NEED it, no matter what. You cannot do without it. That said, there are some properly engineered systems that you can use to "float" your floor acoustically, breaking the flanking paths, while also maintaining all of the above. One such system is Isosil:

Here is their brochure: give them a call:

That's the correct way to do it, and the only way that works. They already did the math, and the rubber is specifically engineered to provide the correct amount of resilience: you can't just use any rubber!!!
any isolation improvement in coating screws in green glue?
None at all. Green Glue does not isolate: it damps. It is a constrained layer damping compound designed to be spread between two large flat surfaces that make up a wall, ceiling, or floor. It works by damping some kinds of resonance that occur internally, between the layers. It would no nothing at all if used as a coating on screws. - Stuart -
