Hi,I have been reading all the wonderful material on this site and contemplating how to best utilize my new (potential) studio space.I recently purchased a church outside of Boston Ma as a studio live work space. I love the sound in the Sanctuary as it is now.(40 x30 with 20' tin ceilings) I am a jazz musician and acoustic instruments/voices sound so great in the space.I will be using this space as it is for now. However, I have the same size footprint on ground level minus about 13' feet length for utility and storage. The ground level is a concrete slab with a granite foundation built up and around the slab.Today I started pulling down old plaster and lath in an area about 14' x 12'.I hope to make this a drum iso room (I am a jazz drummer) and plan to build a control room onto that structure (and maybe more) at a later date. The ceiling to the exposed joists will likely be over 8'6".The building is old post and beam construction and I am going to be sad to cover the amazing craftmanship I revealed with my day of demolition.I was interested in a number of the designs but I am leaning towards a garage #2 or a corner control design.I realize this is not how many of you have realized your studios but my priority is to first create a great drum room for practicing that I can build a control room onto later. Ultimatley I would like to be able to record what is being played up or downstairs in the control room. I downloaded smartdraw, but just like composing music , I find pencil and paper easier.I would love to hear any and all suggestions and thank you all in advance for your time.onward and upward,Greg.
Don't presume that you have to cover up all the nice workmanship that you uncovered. It may take some tradeoffs elsewhere but I think that studios should have character too.
