Hi, I am setting up a studio in a basement. Because of a Support Beam I have to build a bump in the ceiling to cover it with DryWall. They say it's called Soffit. Please see the attachment with the floor plan. My question is weather I'll have any accoustic problems in the Control Room because of this bump. You can see that the speakers will be a little tilted, but still...I am concearn. Are they going to be any side effects because of this? Would it be better off to make a big bump (soffit) to cover both the HVAC duct and the BEAM with the same Frame/Drywall system? thank you!

sorry for my ignorance....but what is a "703"? thank you!
"703" is a type of insulation. You could try adding ceiling clouds like this. cheers john

THank you very much....I think that I'll go for building a single, big soffit (bump in the ceiling) which would cover both the metal beam and the HVAC duct. The studio height under this soffit would be 6'5"...kind of low...but this is only the control room...
I'm in the same boat, but the equipment racks will be right under where the beam is, so not too many people will bonk their heads. :D Actually if you do the 2 soffits like you have in the drawing, and use the 703 like John drew into the drawing, it will give you better acoustical absorption w/ that air space.
