What are you guys useing for software?
To do what? Multitrack digital audio? Midi sequencing? Both the above? Generate test tones? Balance the books? Surf the web in search of software? Generate track sheets? Rhyme lyrics? Print sheet music? I could go on, but surely you get the point. There is such a thing as TOO succinct when asking questions - Didn't mean to come across as bitchy, but you caught me when my laptop is doing things that make me want to cut down a 4-foot diameter tree with a dull butter knife. Anyway, more specifics get you more and better answers - Now that I've calmed down some, I use Cake Pro Audio9 for MIDI, synced to Samplitude 6 for audio, by using Hubi's Loopback device for internal sync - Samp is master, Cake is slave. Cake runs about 20 various brands/types of modules, some with keys, some without - 3 different drum modules, 2 different drum controllers, 8x8 MIDI interface, 3 different keyboard controllers, 2 by Roland, one by Yamaha - I use Sound Forge for 2-track editing, sometimes Samplitude for that too. Soundquest's Midiquest for librarian software, integrated into Cakewalk. Tascam M-1516 analog and DM-24 digital mixers, Yamaha and TC hardware reverbs, and a bunch of other stuff as the mood calls for it. For analog recording I have a Tascam 38 8-track. Mixdowns either to CD or DAT, or usually both... Steve
since i am in STUDIO DESIGN, i guess that would be i am looking for software that I can design a floorplan. If i wanted info on a DAW or something like that i wouldn't be here. thanks for your info thou.
Sorry Mate, besides the urge to run over my computer with a bulldozer multiple times and forgetting which forum you were posting in, there's the thing John mentioned - 2 months of feeling like I wish Saddam had a dose of what I've endured - Anyway, I've yet to try the SmartDraw thing, hate to change horses til the one I'm riding is dead - I use a DOS-based pgm called Generic CADD, which was cheap and good and scared the hell out of AutoDesk (autocad) to the point where AutoDesk BOUGHT the company, kept it alive for a while, made it file compatible with a converter module, then decided NOT to update it to a Windows application. Runs fine under Win98 though... Gotta admit though, it's kind of a PITA to draw in Generic Cadd, export as a .DXF, load that into AutoDesk's home QuickCad, (hate their interface) then export that as a JPG... Steve
As long as we are talking about software for designing studios, does anyone have DXF format tables, drums etc. It would be great to have these things so we who are designing our own studios could get a feel for the scale of the rooms. I have seen such pictures on this site and elsewhere but have been unsuccessful in finding the pieces. Thanks in advance
