Hi I've been reading the manual and just to make sure, do I understand correctly that metal studs are better for staggered walls or that it just doesn't matter? I have two walls to build in two weeks so here is the quote below. Studs: Except for staggered stud systems, substituting timber studs for steel studs generally results in a significant decrease in sound isolation. Increasing the thickness of steel studs from 0.55BMT to 0.75BMT or 1.15BMT will decrease sound isolation Decreasing the stud spacing will decrease the sound isolation. Thanks Andre
There is a difference, yes, but it's not huge, and you can compensate for it in other ways. Your best bet for understanding this is IR761: http://archive.nrc-cnrc.gc.ca/obj/irc/d ... /ir761.pdf That analyzes hundreds of different wall construction techniques, using both wood and metal studs, and you can see the differences on the graphs, clearly. - Stuart -
