Hello everyone,
I've put together a proposed garage recording studio layout. The garage is an existing unfinished single car with a pored cement floor (wood frame only, vinyl siding on the outside, shingled angled roof). This layout should give an idea of what I'm going after, I've tried to read through the forums here and incorporate as many ideas as I could. Right now, I'm not showing the ceilings, HVAC or wiring, that's next, but thought I'd see if I get any feedback just based on what I have put together so far. Let me know if you like this layout or if you see any major problems with it. My goal is really to have a small recording studio with as much sound deadening as I can get with new walls constructed inside of the existing unfinished structure. I'm trying to keep sound from getting out as much as possible, and would like to have good recording acoustics as much as possible as well.

Hi there "prairiechicken", and Welcome! :)
The live room looks fine, but the control room is not going to work. It is way too small, it isn't symmetrical, the shape is not right, and the listening position is way too close to the rear wall. You seem to be wasting some space with the entrance lobby, and also with the vocal booth, so you could drop those out of the plans entirely and use the extra space to fix the control room. For example, to me it looks like you could do a proper corner control room with a good size, shape and layout, and still keep the overall size of the live room about the same as it is now. There really isn't enough room in there to add a vocal booth and a lobby: the space is just too small for that. Record your vocals in the Control Room instead! :) - Stuart -Let me know if you like this layout or if you see any major problems with it
Thanks very much for the reply!
Originally I was just looking for a practice area and figured I might be able to make it work as a small recording studio as well. With your thoughts on the control room, I'm wondering if I should just go with maybe one large practice room (no control room). I have an entrance area because of the cold weather in the winter here, I thought it would be good to not have an outside entrance into the live room and a small area to keep a few things, but I agree it chews-up a lot of space. Worst-case scenario I could still do some demo recording in there (with no control room), and there would be lots more room in the live room.
I'll look at a few different layouts and see what options there might be. Thanks again!
