Hello,
Firstly can I say what a great forum this is and it has been invaluable in helping me design my home studio. I have finally come to accept the fact that i,m not going to be able to buy abbey road studios in my life time :D.
I have come up with a basic design for a home studio that I want to use for production and recording guitars and vocals. I am looking to put a 3 inch stud wall in front of the existing party wall between me and next door, with the hope of keeping the noise to a minimum. I was going to place 2 sheets of plaster board on the frame separated with green glue leaving a small air gap between the stud wall and the existing wall. The existing party wall is constructed of 300mm stone work.
In the corner of the room I am going to construct a vocal booth. I was going to construct the frame work of the booth with 50mm by 50mm timber. The reason being to save space in the room. I was going to use a double frame work on the surfaces in the room and fix the other frame work to the existing walls with a noeprene cushion separating the frame vibration from the wall.
Again I will use two layers of 12.5mm plasterboard on the internal and external walls of the booth along with green glue and rockwool in the frame work.
I have the following Questions.
1. Will my design for the sound proofing to the party wall work in reducing sound to my next door neighbors?
2. Will my vocal booth design work in preventing the rest of my house hearing me sing at the top of my voice?
3. I will set up the mixing area facing the stud wall. It there any obvious problems with room nodes etc that you can see.
Any help in this would be greatly appreciated,
thanks
James
I tried to attach the sketch up files but they were to big. If more detailed pics are required I will put them up.
