And here the measurements are. First the SPL, and next the waterfall. I compared my last measure (see way up in this post) when I mounted the closet doors with isolation in it to the measurement after the build of the soffits :

It's really amazing what these soffits do with the sound. I'm really happy to have gone through all the work. So much more detail in the music, bass extends deeper and is much more accurate. :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:
And this is where I have ended up until now. I have mounted "basstraps" in the left and right upper corners of the room, that is in the corner of the left and right wall with the roof. in the detail you can see the isolation is held up with stapled chickenwire. I will build some frames to cover these traps. The goal is that these frames will be mounted with the white magnet things (like the are sometimes used to close closets). Each of them can cary 5kg, so it should be okee, I hope :D :D See next pictures :

I also have build the frame between the soffits :

And here are the results of the jury... euhm, the results of the measurements. These measurements are for the upper basstraps and some more isolation between the speakers (where the frame between the soffits are (not yet on a picture) versus the last measurements (= after soffit build). And no smoothing :

And the full mdat file can be downloaded from here : https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-GyUY77FaqybndkVk9HZVVCekU/view?usp=sharing These upper basstraps have added another gain on detail in the lower frequency range. This room start to sound amazing, even my 11 year old son is excited !! In the coming weeks I hope to continue this quest, and put more isolation on the rear wall, and then starting on the first reflection points (left, right and up). So stay tuned :P :P And as always, any comment is welcome !! Dirk.
Hello everyone. It's been a very long time me checking in on the forum. Had lot's of stuff to do, and have been sick for about a year (heavy burn-out). I'm almost out of it now, so it's going the right direction :). Anyway, in the near future, I will upload the remaing pictures of my build, so that this thread is complete. But in the meantime, I want to share my youtube channel with all of you. It's been one way of dealing me with my burn-out, because I stopped making music in my way onto my burn-out. So, after more than half a year sitting in the couch, I slowly restarted having fun in music, ant this is the result. It's the result of many houres of music recording, video recording and editing in my studio/listening room and it give's a good view on the progress of my build to. It's metal music, but not that heavy. I think it's still pretty doable for not metal heads   . Enough talk, here is the link : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0Nxer_P6nx9_wMGqN1OYWA And my latest cover: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgGEAWQnuHI The pre-latest:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zgXPIS61wuU&t=59s And the rest is there for you people to check out on my channel. Hope you like my work. Cheers, Dirk.
Hi Dirk, Glad to hear that you're getting back on track. I've just read through your build thread and it's very inspiring. You clearly worked very hard and the results looked excellent. I'd really like to see those photos of the finished room. Cheers TF
Hey Dirk, Loved the Taylor Swift. Studio looks clean , nice lines Peace Tom
Thanks for the kind words to both of you! I appreciate that :D .
Finally found the time to upload my pictures. So here we go :D :D : A view on the Soffits painted with the first reflection isolation on the left and the right. In the middle of the soffits, another panel of isolation :

The back of the room starts to take shape:

Don't know why the first 2 are angled 90°, but you get the idea I suppose. I'm really happy with the result, and certainly am very glad I went through the big effort of building this room. It sounds amaising, very detailed. It's so easy to mix in this room, and is so satisfying when I listen to music in there. I want to thank everybody on this forum, and especially Stuart, that helped me a lot in this build. This forum is gold when building a good sounding room. Cheers!
One last post today on my build thread: As I already posted some time ago, I started my own youtube channel since October last year (2017). It's called Me(n)tal Twist Covers. One's a month, I upload a metal cover of a song. And if gives a very good view on my studio! You can always check it out following this link:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0Nxer_P6nx9_wMGqN1OYWA This is my latest cover, "I'm on fire" from Bruce Springsteen. It turned out kinda heavy, but I'm very happy with the result: https://youtu.be/lLcz5o9CSWU I hope I can convince some metal heads on this forum to subscribe  :D :D . Cheers, Dirk.
Dirk, that place looks REALLY nice! Some excellent workmanship there. So there's one thing I needed to do for you: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=5842&p=40923#p40923 Right at the top of the list! :thu:

   :thu: Thanks! Glad it worked out for you! It would be great if you could do some final REW tests in your room, and post those. If you want, also post the original, very first tests you did in the empty room, and I'll prepare some graphs that show the huge difference, so folks can see what you have achieved. I have to say I'm pretty impressed with the way the low end of your spectrum ended up, especially considering the very small size and very complicated shape of your room! I'd love to do those graphs, if you'll take the time to do the tests. I'm sure you already know how to do this, but I recently wrote up a procedure for how to do REW tests, in case you are interested: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=21122 . - Stuart -
Hey Stuart, Woow, Thanks for adding me in that list. I was secretly hoping for it :D :D . This makes me a proud man! Yes, it was indeed not easy to create this room. These angled walls are a pain in the ... because I didn't have 6 walls to deal with, but 8... So off course the theory still applies, but gets even more complicated with these angled walls. And in the build it's also complicating things. Making those soffits was the most difficult thing I ever build in my life. Just figuring out how to get them aligned to be mirrors of each other took me more than a whole day... But I did it :)! Anyway, I still had the file with all my measurements on my computer, so here it is: I only kept, as you requested, the first and final measurement: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-GyUY77FaqyNzFNZVptT1Fja2c/view?usp=sharing Already made some graphs myself, but I'm sure you can say a lot more about these than I can :). What I know for sure, is that the dip in the first measurement for about 67Hz, is almost completely taken car of by the VPRS that I build:

Have fun with it! I'm looking forward to your analysis.
Sorry! I hadn't seen your response, until just now.

Wow! That's some pretty darn nice improvements! For that size room, and with that shape, it's VERY very good! Well done, and congratulations. :thu: :thu: I have to say that you have done one hell of a job there. It looks great, and it is performing spectacularly. (It would still be possible to improve the response a little more, it you really wanted to . . . :) ) - Stuart -
Thank you Stuart for those kind words. I'm just very glad that I found this forum, found tons of info on it and had the help I got (mostly from you). It was a very satisfying journey for me. I think I started reading and studying on the subject about 8 years ago! For the improvements, you can always give me some suggestions! In the meantime, I'm really enjoying my 'mancave' for listening and creating music. I even sit here when I'm working from home (telework) and in the 'background' I listen to some sweet metal :D  :D :D ! Cheers, Dirk.
