:D Hello all, New here, so I hope I don't accidentally break any forum rules... So I am trying to build a basement studio. With limited space, I'm not sure if I should go for a large one room studio (e.g. real traps maximum studio) or try and do a live room/control room. I'm leaning toward one large room with an isolation booth, however. The space will also be used for band rehearsal, so larger may be better. Also, isolation is pretty important, things can sometimes be pretty loud. The basement foundation is entirely underground. The bottom of the above flooring is 8'5" from the foundation floor. The bottom of the joists are at about 7'8" from the foundation floor. Airplanes are constantly overhead, so I am planning on doing 3 layers of drywall on the above deck, insulation, and 3 more layers of drywall on rc-2 which brings my ceiling height to 7' 5 5/8" or so. Problem is I don't know how to ideally pick a room shape. Or if you guys think I should really try and get 2 rooms out of my space... I would like to use the side of the house with no windows for the tracking section. I can pretty much build the 'maximum studio' by scaling down the recommended dimension from a hard ceiling height of 8", but would you guys recommend that? Here's the link to that page if you haven't seen it. http://www.realtraps.com/art_studio.htm My issue with this design is that it is not necessarily maximizing my available space. There would be a lot of wasted space because to fit that room shape in my basement and still have other somewhat normal looking rooms would require squaring out the other rooms. On a side note I'll be following construction methods from Rob Gervais' Home Recording Studio:Build It Like the Pros book. I am an AV integrator by profession. My father who will be helping me build is an extremely skilled master carpenter. Unfortunately, neither of us are acoustic engineers, and neither of us have built a recording studio before. The tools are all there, but this particular bit of experience is not. Attached is my feeble attempt at learning sketchup in a day. If anyone has any suggestions on what I should do with the space please let me know. I can also upload photos if anyone is willing to help me out. I indicated where any non movable structural elements are, as well as plumbing. My dad was talking about wanting to re-install a new main support beam sucked all the way up to the ceiling, which would take away that 7" drop below the joist level. It also means that support post next to the right of the fireplace support could potentially move if necessary. I didn't draw in the joists 'cause I couldn't figure out a reasonable way to do it, so the height shown is to the decking above. Equipment going in will need to be able to house a 4 piece band(big drums 24, 18, 16,13, 14x8 snare, 24"ride, 15" HH, full stack for bass, half stack for guitar), a mixing desk, with at least 2 sets of monitors, a bunch of midi gear, etc... I really want to thank you guys in advance for any suggestions you may have. Cheers!http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/posting.php?mode=post&f=1#

Huh... trying to view your SKP, but I can't open it. Says it was created in a newer version of sketchup, however when I update my version, it says I have the up to date version.
Bummer.
