Control room design?

Hi everyone, This is my first post in this forum and I would really appreciate any feedback to my wonderings. I live in Sweden and work as a music teacher, mainly drums. Beside that I also do some recordings in our studio. Now, the thing is that we (our music school) are about to move to a new place, well actually to a very charming 100 year old school building. I'm now responsible for designing the new studio which also will work as teaching room for drums, bass etc. It all must be fitted in one class room; 9,4m x 6,7m x 3,7m. As I'm sitting on two chairs, both as a teacher who want as big studio as possible and as a recording man who really would like a big control room, I have to compromise with myself. Another thing that limit the design is the two outer walls which contain huge windows. After hard thinking, reading a lot on this forum etc I would like to show you my design. I've been using Genelec 1031A for the last 15 years and I'm really curious to how the will sound flush mounted. I will not use a sub woofer. The 2 baffel walls will be build with 2 or 3 layers of gypsum bord and filled with heavy damping. Speaker distance is 1,9 meter. The wall angles are 30 degrees. The grey area in the pictures are absorbent material. Now to my questions: Is there gonna be a problem due to the narrow room ratios 1:1,22:1,35? Since the parallell sidewalls have both a huge window and a door I guess it's okey to have them parallell. Or??? Any other thoughts? Grateful for all the help I can get! //joigle

He there "joigle", and welcome to the forum! :)

So this will be a two-room studio? One control room and one live room, with nothing else? How many people do you need to fit into that room normally?

The should sound great: They have the necessary controls on the back for flush mounting, and they are not rear ported, so provided that the soffits are design and built well, that would be a really god idea.

That's actually a very good ratio! It is close to Sepmeyer's best ratio (1 : 1.14 : 1.39), which is excellent.

Right. No problem, as long as the door and walls are treated properly. - Stuart -
Thanks Stuart! For a minute, well weeks actually, I've been wondering if I've done something wrong, not following the rules of this forum or something. So your answer is much appreciated! Since last time I've redrawn the studio plan: The CR is basically the same when it comes to room dimensions, but the CR window is now on the side and the big window to the outside has been closed. //jogle

Naah, you did fine: it's just that there's been a lot of activity on the forum lately, and not too many people helping out with responses, so sometimes it can take me a while to work my way down the list of threads needing replies!

Looks pretty good like that, actually. You just need to start filling in the details now, such as the isolation walls for both rooms, and the treatment at the rear of the CR. On the right track! - Stuart -
