Hey guys,
I was checking out some of the studio builds (in particular "the stiz" build) in the construction area and have a few questions regarding slot resonators.
Just for a moment, lets assume my questions are related to small rooms, say 4m x 3.5m x 2.4m.
1)If a majority of the walls in such a room were mainly slot resonators would they still produce a fair amount of destructive early reflections at the listening position due to the amount of hard surface timber lining the walls?
2) is there are percentage ratio that gets taken into account? for example, a slot resonator shouldnt make up more than 60% of a walls total surface area.
3) If it turns out that they do produce a fair amount of early reflections is it better then to use conventional cloth faced braodband absorbers (or diffusers) at "mirror" reflection points and slot resonators in between and in other locations?
These are the questions that popped into my head while checking out some of the builds.
thanks guys,
question about slot resonators

No. If you want to use slot walls on the sides of your room at the first reflection points, then they need to be angled such that all reflections will stay well clear of the mix position.1)If a majority of the walls in such a room were mainly slot resonators would they still produce a fair amount of destructive early reflections at the listening position due to the amount of hard surface timber lining the walls?
That depends on the room. All rooms are different, and each requires its own treatment for optimum acoustics. In some rooms it might be 20%, in others it might 70%. And since slot walls usually target specific frequency ranges, you can use them to tailor the room response, to a certain extent.2) is there are percentage ratio that gets taken into account? for example, a slot resonator shouldnt make up more than 60% of a walls total surface area.
Yes, if you can't angle the walls steeply enough, then just put thick absorption at the first reflection points. - Stuart -3) If it turns out that they do produce a fair amount of early reflections is it better then to use conventional cloth faced braodband absorbers (or diffusers) at "mirror" reflection points and slot resonators in between and in other locations?
Thanks Stuart :)
