Hi Guys, First just want to say this is a great forum and thanks to all the guys in the past that have helped me (particularly Stuart!) I have a Live Room that with the dimensions shown in the picture. At the moment all surfaces in the room are absorbent so the room is very dead sounding. I plan to make one or two of the walls into slat resonators to make the room more lively. I will start with one wall which adjoins the control room (the one with the window) and see how lively the room sounds afterwards. I plan to use 2"x1", 3x1" and 4x1" pine to cover the whole wall but I'm having problems deciding the different slot widths to use, would really appreciate some help!! Thanks

I forgot to mention I need the slat resonator wall to be a broadband low mid absorber, reflecting/diffusing high/mids and highs if possible. I will vary the slot widths (6mm to 12mm) down the wall, and slat widths (alternating between 1x2, 1x3, 1x4), will this give me the response I need? The problem is the calculator on this site does not take into account multiple slot widths so I'm not sure how to calculate this....
here is what I'm thinking... I hope this will give me broadband low mid absorbtion!

Perhaps, and perhaps not. You seem to be tuning to just three specific frequencies, but you didn't say what those 2 are, or why you chose them. The frequency also depends on slot depth (the width of the slats) and cavity depth, which you did not show above. Also, slot walls act more as a set of individual resonators tuned to specific frequencies if the total percentage "perforation" is less than about 5% to 10%, and they act more as a general broadband absorption device tuned to teh average frequency if the percentage perforation is more than about 15% to 20%. I'm not sure if that is of any help to you, but it is important to take into account. - Stuart -
Hi Stuart, thanks for chiming in, sorry I forgot to mention that the cavity depth is 50mm. The boards are all 1 inch thick. I took those these designs directly from the walls section of Johns manual, I assumed they would be tuned for broadband low/mid absorption?

There's a calculator for slot resonators somewhere on the stickies, here on the forum. It uses the correct version of the equation, so it is safe to use. Beware that there are several calculators (and even text books) that have the wrong version, where there's a "+" sign instead of a "x" sign... watch out for those! Obviously, they give you the wrong answer... - Stuart -
