Hi there,
Just wondering if anyone has any input on designing a control room with surround in mind. What special treatments need to be done any tips etc..
Optimum size also would be nice. Building a new studio. My current studio I am doing surround in and it has been working nicely, however I am moving to bigger digs and I want to do it completely right.
I am monitoring with genelecs (1030A's for the LCR and 1029's for the surrounds. KRK rok Bottom for my sub) so I will continue to monitor nearfield as i can't afford to go soffit mounted anytime soon. I am thinking of going with "the big facility". i have about 1050 sq feet to work with before the build. Ceilings are 9 feet high to the main ceiling joists with about a foot or two above to the gyprock.
Any input would be very welcome. :D
Best regards,
Doug

Greeting and welcome to the site. I don't have much time at the moment, but if you do a search here on surround or 5.1, you'll find a lot of info that has been covered on some of the theories and standards or recommendations for designing for 5.1.
I just designed mine late last year and started construction in January. I'm hoping to finish the drywall in one of my iso's this weekend.
Gotta run.

I hope you realize how open ended your question is. They are quite comprehensive in technical specifications and you can start with reading http://www.aes.org/technical/documents/AESTD1001.pdf and the document linked in http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=13161#13161 They are extensive, but if you are designing the facility yourself, the better you understand the criteria, the better you will be able to implement them to your advantage. Enjoy! AndreJust wondering if anyone has any input on designing a control room with surround in mind.
