I have a 8' 11" by 18' 10" room in my basement which I'd like to convert into a control room or maybe a control room plus Iso booth. This would be mainly for mixing and overbudding. What are suggestions for wall placement or simply adding acoustic treatment to make this a good control room. The whole floor is a heavy, shaggy carpet. There is a closet and wall storage unit on the far end which need to be able to be acessed. The room layout is like this (all to scale): Edit: Isolation from CR to the outside world is not a big concern, only acoustics.

First thing - acoustics are not 2-dimensional; what's your available ceiling height, and what state of finish is the room in at the moment? (Open ceiling joists, insulated or not, what kind of insulation, wall framing (or concrete, brick, etc) - The more we know about what's already there, the better. Each type of building material has its own characteristics of absorption, and different thicknesses also change things. Fill in the details, I'm sure John will have some great ideas for dividing the space (your wanting an ISO will help get modes under control as well, by changing the dimensions of the CR space) If you're serious about acoustics, I hope you're willing to get rid of the carpet - and a rough budget would be good to know as well... The room is a finished room. All walls and ceiling are standard 2x4 stud walls with wallboard except for the wall on the right which I believe is concrete covered with 1/4 inch layer of cedar planking (very nice looking). Ceiling height right now is 7' 2". Above the current plasterboard is the beams for the first floor of the house. I'm open to any suggestions but practically and budget wise I dont want to be removing any present walls or ceiling. I'm mostly looking for placement and dimensions of addable things like slot resonators, bass traps, etc... So I guess budget would be $1,000 or $2,000. Not a huge project. More of a DIY expirement (If that's cool by you hardcore studio designers :) ). As far as the ISO booth is concerned, I'd increase the budget and be a bit more willing to do damage to the room. But I figured I could simply have a couple added angled walls which would be sufficient (floated or not depending on your opinions)? Underneath the carpet is concrete, would it be good enough to simply use the concrete floor? I should also mention that the wall to the left of the door to the driveway has the ciruit breaker for the house. Any info or comments welcome! Any more info you want?
I was thinking something like this: 1. the minimal route with with a not very isolated booth 2. Just a CR...

We may be hardcore studio designers, but most of us are just as hardcore about the DIY part. How much isolation are you looking for? Not going to be putting marshall stacks in there turned up to 11 or anything, are you?
No, nothing like that. Plus we are on about 2 acres so therefore a ways away from the rest of civilization. The rare times I might have a loud setup I can put them in the adjacent room which is probably about 40ish by 20ish. This space will mostly be for mixing down tracks and doing some vocal overdubs. Also, how are bookcases at absorption and diffusion? Right now the top half of the room is lined with full bookcases. If they could be effectively used I'd be killing two birds with one stone as they need to go somewhere.
