Okay so I FINALLY bought a house CASH! No landlord, no mortgage! I can do whatever I want to it! Burn it to the ground if I like! But I won't! Here are some images of the control room (which is two bedrooms together with a wall blown out) and a vocal/amp booth made from a walk in closet. Before I go tearing stuff up, I would like some input from this forum that I have been a lurker on for so many years. Here is the closet as it is now:

And here it is with my proposed treatment

Here is my Control Room (8ft Ceiling):

I have seen so many designs on here, it is hard for me to pick one for the control room! I will upload the Live room layout soon and I will post updates on the build and some pictures as well!
Okay, here is my proposed treatment for this room. I am open to ALL suggestions. Bring them on lol! But without taking measurments, I figure this may be a goood starting point! Should I do the splayed walla in the back too? Should the rear corner traps be wood faced instead of just fabric? I plan on using just regular 1x4x8 pine from my local home depot to be the facing of the splayed walls. Then do fabric behind them, with random sized air gaps to let the bass through. Am I on the right track?

Damn, it seems this forum just isn't as alive as it used to be. Here is an alternative, but I want to include an iso booth for vox/amps in the back corner somehow, but still be able to get some diffusion and bass trapping going on. Any suggestions?

It seems to be pretty alive to me! Half a dozen new members arrived today, several with interesting new projects. Your thread doesn't seem to be getting many replies, though... There is an announcement at the top of the forum about what to do to assure getting as many responses as possible. The announcement leads to this post (click here). Please check over those one more time: You seem to be missing a couple of things! :) - Stuart -

Ha! Thanks Stuart! Ok, so I updated my location, and as far as the doors, they both lead to the dining room. Budget wise, I'm not really constrained. I'm not going to install $200k monitors or anything, but floating floors etc is all fine budget wise. I need to make the vocal/amp booth work for singers, guitar amps, and bass amps. I want it to be as good as possible! I also have a 2 car garage that I could do something with. Perhaps it would be even better than this room? I'll take measurements and post them. I have pretty much realized the closet is not going to work, and building an actual iso booth decoupled is the way to go.
That's better! :) It looks like I neglected to welcome you, so better late than never: Welcome to the forum! :)
Burn it to the ground if I like!
Hopefully, that won't be necessary. But it's noce to know you have the option!

OK, but you aren't giving us much to go on! How is that place built? For example: is the floor concrete slab on grade, or raised timber deck, or ... ? Are the walls brick? Concrete? Timber framed? If the latter, what is on each side of the framing? And the ceiling? And the roof? You live in Florida so I guess there is no basement, and you just have a typical concrete slab-on-grade with stud-framed walls, siding on the outside, drywall on the inside, etc. but if you don't tell us in detail what you have, then we can't know. And all of that is important, acoustically. You also don't say what the purpose of this studio is: hobby or commercial? One-man-band or symphony orchestra? Reggae, rock, rap, classical, or extreme death metal? Live acoustic instruments or only midi? Lots of outboard gear and a mammoth vintage Neve console, or all ITB on a mini-notebook? Also, you don't mention your isolation needs: Do live next to a room full of sleeping babies, or are you in the middle of a 100 acre empty field? Do you live right next to a major highway, train station, airport, or other very noisy place? etc. There's a lot more info that you'll need to provide to get useful feedback here. Regarding layout, your second option makes more sense to me: using the long narrow section for the control room and the wider space for the live room. Actual photos of the room would help us understand things a bit better, too It looks like you have a nice sized space there. Should work out well. - Stuart -

Concrete Block Construction. Concrete Slab. Roof is brand new metal residential roof. No basement. Drywall walls and ceilings. Stucco on outside. I have this long room, a 19x19 garage, and a huge living room with cathedral ceilings and a stone fireplace. Looking to make that the "live" room.

Commerical. Basically the whole house will be a studio and I will have 1 bedroom for me. Need to start with the control rooms and a booth, as 50% of my work is audio/video for sales videos, commercials, instructional videos, etc. I also do full bands. Rock, blues, country, singer/songwriters. No rap or electronica, but I do use midi for drums alot. I have a 32 channel Midas console, and about four 16U ranks full of outboard gear. ITB is not my style ;)

I don't really care about isolation too much for the control room, as that stuff does not bother me when mixing. Relatively quiet neighborhood. However, I NEED one vocal/amp booth that is isolated to all hell. It should be able to track vocals, guitar amps, and bass amps with a good degree of isolation. In other words, I don't want to hear any bleed from loud cars going by or assholes with thier boom box systems driving by. I don't mind hearing it while mixing, but I need to be able to track vocals ANY time. Rain or shine, and when it thunders and rains in Florida (and it does alot), it is loud as hell! I am sick of having to cancel sessions due to a damn storm.

That room is meant to be a control room, not a CR/Live room. I just want to fit a iso booth in the back somehow if I can, and make it look pretty ;) When you say "live", I am thinking of an acoustically vibrant room, not an iso booth. The living room will eventually become that. I will do you one better than photos. I'll record a walkthrough of the place today and post the youtube link here
