Thanks Stuart, Actually, I don't think the Interdyn speakers are ported at all. That's a tweeter on the front, alongside oval mid driver & 2x10" low end drivers.
I had a pretty good listen to these speakers last night, on a variety of material, & I think they may actually be worth installing. I'm just not sure there's quite enough width in the front wall area to do it, because of that brick pillar. I've drawn up a scale plan, trying to take all angles into account, but I'll tweak it just a little more before posting what I have figured out. Cheers!
OK, I've been continually researching.. and looking to move forward into the next phase of construction - ceiling and walls. One tricky thing to figure out at this point is that, while I had pretty much settled on the basic internal wall arrangement outlined above, my dad feels that having a separate stair landing in and out of each of the live room and the control room - as the only way to get between these rooms - is too convoluted. (see the picture in the first post of this page for this layout) He would prefer if we can maintain a direct doorway between the two rooms (as was originally planned) rather than via the stairs and thru a short corridor. But a direct door would have to be through the front wall of the control room. I know this isn't a standard arrangement at all, but can you tell me if you think it's plausible at all in this case, or particularly problematic? I need to ascertain which is the better way to go. Because of the brick pillar nib wall extending into the right hand side of the front of the control room, my dad's proposal is to replicate something of the same structural shape on the left side of the room, but in the form of a doorway (or perhaps a double door system), to which the corner treatment on that side could perhaps also be incorporated in a hinged system (to give continual access to the doorway). Here are a couple of images to show what I mean: (front of control room isolation wall potential construction)

(and with an indication of corner treatment)

I'd love to hear if people have had success with this kind of door arrangement, or with corner treatment that can be mobile enough to be opened on a hinge, for door access. Also, for that matter, opinions on what would be any issues with this arrangement. I think the layout with stair & landing access in each room could still be considered if it seemed significantly more advantageous overall to go that way.
Not being too sure if that front wall arrangement that I've been working on is altogether just a bit too problematic / overly complicated, I'm thinking perhaps the best compromise (between my need for the 5.2m length in the control room, and my dad's requirement for the walls to line up behind the support columns) is to switch the position of the rooms around. This way the control room is perhaps not in the ideal position for one reason or another, but the dimensions are more favourable, and overall the layout will probably work better.

The idea is that the control room now sits in the position where the column spacing is actually pretty close to 5.2m, at the south end of the space. The live room is no longer entered directly from that end, but has to be entered either thru the control room, or via the corridor in the garage. I think it'll work out, and I don't have to deal with the brick pillar wall or the stair landing encroaching on the control room layout anymore! Not sure if anyone's reading here much anyway, but it feels like a good place to keep updated here, as any interest or input from you folks is always much appreciated. Thanks especially Anthony, for the face-to-face chats so far, and valuable input from Stuart, of course also! You guys are generous to lend your support and ideas. Cheers! Ev.

I looks better overall, but how do you plan to close off the doors at the rear of the room so that you can treat that rear wall properly? - Stuart -

Thanks once again, Stuart. What I had in mind at this stage is to hang a heavy curtain across the back wall (say 1 foot out from the glass wall & double doors) and then have a decent sized combination diffuser / absorber panel (on wheels) that will basically live in front of the curtain, but could be moved aside to allow access from those doors when needed. Could this be an effective solution, do you think? Or am I on the wrong track? Cheers! Ev.

Just to clarify that my Interdyn Model 60 uses 2x 25-TV-EW, 15/11-TV-2XM, and H087, and it is closed-box. Interdyn often put in their own (simpler) crossovers, rather than the SEAS standard - although the 60 has the SEAS H8014 crossover, which appears to be the SEAS D014 (http://dalmura.com.au/projects/SEAS%20D ... ssover.pdf). Interdyn/Encel incentive would most likely have been from the Dynaco A50. Ciao, Tim
OK, well, we have the bulk of the space constructed now.. It's been a while since updates. I'm really happy how it's all come together - thrilled, actually. (I'll post some up-to-date pictures showing where everything's at some time in the coming days). There's a bit to go, including completing the acoustic treatment, which is the purpose of this post. Part of the quirk of the whole scheme is there's a lot of glass, which I'm planning to treat - at least in terms of upper freq range reflections - using drapes or, preferably, some kind of damping vertical blinds, as this would provide a bit more flexibility as far as degrees of adjustment for light and so on. I have seen some such products offered (not in Australia, unfortunately, but in USA) which are designed more-so for speech frequencies in offices (or multi-purpose spaces etc), but presumably such materials would certainly at least be preferable to most regular drape / curtain materials. eg. http://www.architonic.com/pmsht/vibrasto-vertical-blinds-texaa-/1160658 If anyone has done something along these lines, or had good experiences with specific products (particularly Australia-centric solutions would be a big plus) I'd love to hear about it!

Great! Good to hear that it is all working out for you so well! :) :thu:

Yes yes yes! As the saying goes around here: "No pics means it didn't happen." :)

Good idea.

Not personally, but they should work to a certain extent. Maybe you could all a few manufacturers and ask if there is a show room near you where you could go see and hear how well they work? - Stuart -
