I got some great help from Kase a while back on my design. I'm finally moved in to the house and ready to start. here is my hopefully final design. recap= this will be primarily a mix/overdub studio (no drums).
garage is 20x15x9. building room in room with most walls inside out (can I do some inside out and some not?)
the false wall is there in order to utilize as much space as possible for storage. the doors to the "closets" wont need to be solid and sound proofed this way to save money.
ISO will be the only floated room as garage is on concrete slab independant of house. if I get the OK from you experts, I will move this to the construction forum to ask ?s I have on that end. thanks! DD
finally ready to start construction!! any last changes?

Am I to assume that there is nothing wrong with this design? Framing starts on Saturday, so please guys, don't let me do something stupid.

that will be bass traps that will be built after the room is done. is this a bad idea?
the front wall will eventually have soffit mounted speakers but for no that wall will have bass traps as well. the side walls will be slot res walls. angled ceiling, 6' in front to 8' at rear.
Maybe something like this??

thanks John. I like the changes. I won't be putting in glass now though. too much $. maybe in future I can install it. most of time the Iso will just be used for gtrs. don't need to see that. would it be ok to put shelves in the space behind the right side walls for cables and mics? what would happen if I widened the CR another foot? I know that will shrink the Iso a bit but I don't need that large an Iso anyway. could I keep the same wall angles on the sides?
thanks a lot for your top notch site and advice. I cringe when thinking about what I would have built in this garage if I didn't stumble across this site.
yes to both questions :)
cheers

Thanks John, your always full of good news! Well I finished putting the 'door into the house' in today. solid core heavy door that must weigh over 100 lbs. shuts nice and snug. very pleased with my first little victory! I then used duct tape to lay out my design on the ground to make sure it all fits properly. it looks a little more cramped in person than it does on paper but there's nothing I can do about that. I will post some pics as I go. Tomorrow I will be floating and framing the Iso booth. wish me luck!
Rock on, DD
